Who can participate?

Mag Inc 2012 is open to: o Primary students from Years 4 to 6 (P) o Lower Secondary students (LS) o Upper Secondary students (US) Participation is through schools in Malaysia. Tuition centres will not be eligible. What participants have to do

Form a team of 4 or 5 members. o Each student can only be a member of one team. o All members in the team must remain in the same team throughout the competition. o All members in the team must be from the same level (P, LS or US) Under the supervision of your English language teachers, produce and submit: 1. A 3-page mini magazine on the theme 'Why English?' (compulsory) 2. A 3-minute video clip on the theme 'Why English?' Mini Magazine
General requirements

Each mini magazine must be:


created on/using the original blank magazine template published in the StarNiE pullouts dated 13 April or 25 April three pages long based on the theme 'Why English?'
Format/content requirements

Each mini magazine must contain:

a self-titled masthead on the front page of the magazine (A3 tabloid size)

an article (feature/news report) o accompanied by at least one illustration, picture or photograph o with a word length of at least 250 words (P), 500 words (LS) or 700 words and above(US) at least three elements found in a magazine which must be related to the subject of the article. Examples of elements (but not limited to): o polls o surveys o advice column/'Aunt Agony' page o advertisements o jokes o anecdotes o poetry o comics o caricatures o illustrations
Avoid plagiarism

You may conduct research using books, articles and the Internet but materials must not be plagiarised. Do acknowledge and cite sources to avoid plagiarism and to enhance the credibility of your writing.
Mark

Marks will be allocated for layout, creativity, content and proper use of language. With all other elements being equal, the strength of the article will carry the most weight in the awarding of marks.

General requirements

An original copy of the entry form (available in the Star-NiE pullouts on 13 April or 25 April) must be used as a cover/sleeve for the team's video clip entry The video clip must be: o three minutes long o based on the theme 'Why English?' o formatted on MPEG files that are supported by Windows Media Player o downloaded into a CD or DVD only (the disc must be clearly labelled with the team's name and school) One CD/DVD must contain only ONE video clip. (i.e. five video clips = five separate discs, each with an original entry form attached.) Videos must be original creations. Videos may be in any form, such as:
