Connection of New Sprinkler Pipe To The Existing System

Before any connection is make to the existing sprinkler mains, the entire pipeworks must be completely drain out. To prevent the left-over water from dripping to the work area. The work area must be covered with blue plastic protection. Pails or buckets must be used to collect the remaining water. Before any connection is make to the existing sprinkler mains, make the spot where the new sprinkler pipes are to be connected. The material used for tapping to the existing sprinkler mains is by using a mechanical couplings. Check the outside surface of the pipe/mating component, between the groove and the pipe/mating component end, must be smooth and free from indentations, projections, and roll marks to ensure a leak-tight seals. Remove the nut and bolt from the mechanical housing. Loosen the other nut until it is flush with the end of the bolts. Check gasket supplied to be certain it is suited for intended service. Apply a thin cost of silicone lubricant to gasket lips and outside of gasket. Reposition gasket into housing using alignment tabs on slides for proper position. Align the two-grooved ends of the pipe. Insert the other pipe end into the gasket until it contacts the centre leg of the gasket. NOTE: Make sure no portion of the gasket extends into the groove of either pipe. Insert bolt in its hole and finger tighten both nuts. Be certain oval-neck of bolt engages recess in housing. Make sure that the positioning lugs are properly aligned. Tighten bolt nuts uniformly until the upper housing is in complete surface contact in the gasket pocket area and the assembly is rigid. When all the new pipes are rigid joined to the existing sprinkler mains, the system is filled back with water supplied from the existing alarm control valves. Check for any signs of leakage after the entire sprinkler system is pressurized up. Inform the system owner that the entire sprinkler system is energised to normal working condition. Reset the fire alarm system.
