PREFACE
This standard for glass milk and cream bottles was prepared by the Association’s
Committee on Glass Milk and Cram Bottles in response to a request from the Market
Milk Federation of Australia. The impending change to metric milk packaging gave
impetus to the work which was carried out under the direction of the Dairying
Standards Board. Milk bottles of nominal capacities 200, 300 and 600 ml are specified
in this standard.

When the number of bottles in a lot is greater than that in the appropriate batch, the
lot shall be divided into batches and a sample taken from each batch. Any residual of
600 or 800 bottles or less, as appropriate, shall not be tested, but any residual of 601
or 801 bottles or more shall be regarded as a batch and shall be sampled accordingly.
4 GLASS.

4.2 Distribution. When the bottles are examined for evenness of glass distribution
in the manner described in Appendix A, any variation in wall thickness over the wall
and base shall not exceed a ratio of 3:1.
