ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR


Brad Pomeroy
Brad Pomeroy is an award winning artist and art instructor residing in Asheville. For nearly 20 years Brad has taught, inspired and challenged creative minds in the disciplines and joy of drawing, cartooning, painting, collage, photography and digital arts. He attained a BFA in design, illustration, and photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Brad received many awards for his artistic achievements in both the commercial and fine art fields. His work has been displayed in Washington, DC art galleries and is currently on display in local Asheville art galleries.

ANIMAL & HABITAT DRAWING & PAINTING


June 18-22, 9a.m.-12p.m. (Session 1) Media: Charcoal, Pastel and Acrylic See line, shape and color come to life as young artists draw and paint animals and landscapes on paper, colored board and canvas panel. Lions, tigers and bears are sure to be among the creatures that inspire our works. Just assuredly trees, clouds, flowers, and lakes will find their way into our landscapes. Freedom and personal expression via the pencil and brush will give your child new opportunities toward better understanding the concepts of light, shadow, texture and form. Participants will be encouraged to energetically explore stroke and color to bring individuality to every creation.

ART OF CARTOONING
July 9-13, 9a.m.-12p.m. (Session 3) Media: Pencil, Marker and Water Color Line-to shape-to form will be our mantra in creating a variety of cute and crazy characters. Well explore the facial expressions & body poses of people, animals and creatures. Well even make a toaster laugh and a floor lamp dance! Participants will personalize their characters by adding whimsical environments and backgrounds.

3-D RELIEF ASSEMBLAGES & CONSTRUCTION


July 23-27, 1p.m.-4p.m. (Session 5) Media: Paper, Foam Board, Wood, Wire and Acrylic Paint Various materials including paper, fabric, foam board, wood, and wire will be used in the process of creating 3-D works of art. Well assemble, construct and sculpt our way into new creative discoveries. Inspired by the human form, architecture, and mechanical objects, our imaginations will be hard at work creating art that has dimension, texture and color. Projects include: animated figure sculpture, African and Asian influenced masks and abstract picture frames.

ART OF CARICATURE
July 16-20, 9a.m.-12p.m. (Session 4) Media: Pencil, Marker and Pastel Caricature is the art of exaggeration and humor. This class will inspire artists in producing cartoon-like pictures of recognizable faces and famous people. Well learn how to enhance unique or prominent parts of faces and bodies that reflect individual personalities. Well produce our works as finished pencil, marker and watercolor caricatures. So look out Will Smith, Lady Gaga, and Harry Potter - youre about to be tooned!

PRINTMAKING: MONOTYPES & NATURE IMPRESSIONS


June 25-June 29, 1p.m.-4p.m. (Session 2) Media: Various Papers, Printing Inks and Tempera Paint Mother Nature will be our inspiration in creating print-based artworks. The transfer process, which is key in printmaking, will allow participants the opportunity to create more spontaneously. Whether the image be a fish, bird, flower, leaf, or other organic structure, children will surely enjoy the freedom that the printmaking process allows. Various colored papers and textured boards will be used in the printmaking process. Our printed works will later find their way into low-relief collages that will pave the way for yet another eye opening and creative experience.

CLAY CREATIONS
July 30-August 3, 9a.m.-12p.m. (Session 6) Media: Polymer and Air Dried Clay / Acrylic Paints Young artists cant resist getting their hands into clay. The wonderful tactile quality of clay is a joy to the senses. Students learn basic form building and sculpting methods for making decorative bowls, animal figures and masks. Learning new processes and procedures will greatly enhance the success of each childs work. Students also learn decorative tooling and embellishment techniques that will bring added life and personality to their works. Fully dried works will be painted and varnished.

ALL CLASSES ARE FOR AGES 8-12 AND INCLUDE ALL MATERIALS AND SNACKS
