PUMP ARRANGEMENT: A 'ROTOR 'having two spring tensioned 'VANES 'rotates eccentrically in the 'STATER'. The stator is provided with 'SUCTIO'N PORT' and specially designed 'EXHAUST VALVE '. It is enclosed on one side with a 'BLIND END COVER 'and other side is provided with a direct drive coupling. The complete pump assembly is immersed in an oil filled' CHEMBER'.

ACCESSORIES'
SOLENOID VALVE: The Solenoid valve electrically operated is provided at the
suction of the vacuum pump, which remains closed normally but when motor gets switched off, it opens and allows atmosphere air to enter, there by it nullifies the pressure difference, so backflow of oil from pump to the system will not occur, thus the sudden power failure is not a problem. Also it acts as the non return valve for the system. The motor can be switched off whenever it is desired.

CONDENSATE BOX / SUCTION:

The Condensate box is

manufactured out of S.S.304 is provided to prevent enter of oil mist or dust particles in to the vacuum pump. Glass window is provided to observe the level of oil and dust inside the tank. When oil window shows the presence of oil it has to be drain out from the drain plug provided at the bottom of the tank.

-3-

OIL SEPERATOR / EXHAUST:

The oil separator tank of S.S.304 is

provided after the pump and connected to the exhaust of S.S.304 is provided after the pump and connected to the exhaust of the pump. The oil which is thrown out from the pump is collected inside the tank and baffle out to prevent of oil gas mixture to be exhausted to the atmosphere. The glass window is provided to observe oil level inside the tank. The oil, which is above the oil level, will be recirculated inside the pump. The float valve is provided for this purpose. This mechanical float valve gets opened when oil reaches certain level as connected through piping to inlet of pump. Further the drain plug is provided to empty the tank manually.

CONNECTIONS: -

Connections are of NW-16. These connections are

assures leak proof joint and assembly and disassembly becomes possible.

VACUUM FORMATION: - High vacuum involves pressure lower than 1 mm of

hg. 'ACMEVAC 'rotary high vacuum pumps are of the spring loaded vane (made from HYLEM) type, oil immersed and oil sealed type. As the rotor revolved in the stator, process gas is sucked through the suction port. Compressed by the tensioned vanes in the stator and expelled through the exhaust / valve, thus a continues Suction - exhaust cycle is initiated. Oil acts as a lubricant as well as a sealant for the internal assembly

-4-

'ACMEVAC' rotary high vacuum pumps '0'hen supplied as complete. unit are complete with a motor, Love Joy Coupling N.R.V. etc. mounted on a sturdy base frame Gas ballast is a standard feature of all models.

BEFORE STARTING:
1. The pump and the motor when supplied as a unit is complete and prealligned on a base frame. While installation it is recommended that the base frame be properly bolted down on a correctly alignment, R.C.C.foundation. 2. Ex. Factory all opening are blanked off. Remove all suck blank flanges, also

ensure that the exhaust gases flow is unimpeded.

3 CHECK and tighten if necessary: a. b. c. Oil tank bolt fitting bolts. Suction nozzle with KF-'16 Coupling and gas ballast cap. Exhaust flanges & KF-16 Coupling.

4. Fill up the oil in the pump oil level in the window provided. The window of the oil tank at least half covered with oil. 5. CHECK electrical connection of the motor. The direction of rotation should be as .. per the arrow marked on the pump or clock wise while facing the pump shaft. 6. CONNECT the suction nozzle to your plant by means of suitable large flexible (Verify) but rigid or non collapsible piping. 7. Fit proper Vapour / liquid traps between pump and system, to avoid damage to pump and large scale oil contamination.

-5-

Your 'ACMEVAC' rotary high vacuum pump is now ready to be Put into use in your system. During operation if condensable vapours are to be handled, make use of the gas ballast. Loosen the gas ballast knob and let the pump run for above ~ hr. so that all condensable Vapour are pumped out before they condense and contaminated the oil

TO STOP
DO NOT STOP THIS PUMP WHILE IT IS YET CONNECTED TO THE VACUUMISED SYSTEM SINCE IT WILL RESULT IN BACKFLOW OF OIL FROM PUMP TO SYSTEM. To avoid this either use a non return valve or isolate the system from the vacuum pump, bleed air into the vacuum pump, either by means of the gas ba1last or a relief valve.

ONLY THEN SWITCH OFF THE MOTOR

OIL is very critical factor in all rotary high vacuum pumps. It is essential that good Quality vacuum oil be used. Standard available SAE - 30-grade oil is also suitable 1. Strain and filter the oil before use. 2. The oil level window should be at least half filled with oil. 3. The oil level in the chamber will gradually reduced after some operations, since

Oil is being used for lubrication. Check oil level at interval of every 15 days.

-6-

IN CASE OIL LEVEL DECREASES AT A FASTER RATE

1) CHECK for leakages through rotor shaft. Change oil seal if necessary. 2) CHECK for leakage through oil drainer. Tightens if necessary.

A SUDDEN DECREASES IN OIL LEVEL indicates back flow of oil from pump to the
vacuum system, due to switching off pump without isolation the pump from the vacuum system. A non return valve should be included between the pump and the vacuum system.

AN INCREASE IN OIL LEVEL Indicates of foreign liquid inside. The oil chamber.
Drain off oil from the chamber. Feed a mixture of oil and kerosene (1: 2) through the. suction nozzle and rotate the pump thought motor fan end shadfly hand to flush the pump. Repeat the procedure 2 - 3 times clean the oil chamber too and fill with fresh oil

Change the oil once it looses its original colour or its viscosity. Frequency of oil change will depend on specific application and its degree of contamination. High vacuum is measured on a MCLOID gauge, which uses mercury. The mercury should be clean and pure, or else vacuum shown will differ from specified vacuum

-7-

IN CASE OF VACUUM DROP

1. CHECK UP vacuum gauge with master gauge. 2. CHECK UP vacuum directly at pump intake. 3. CHECK UP all piping and valves for leakages. Apply silicon grease if necessary. 4. CHECK all. 0 'rings and gaskets. 5. CHECK oil for contamination. Clean, pump and oil chamber with Kerosene and fill up with fresh oil. 6. In case of condensable gases being hand lei. Keep the GAS BALLAST open above half an hour then close it. Full vacuum should be achieved by than. 7. In a rare case the exhaust valve plate may get displaced such a condition is noticeable by the highly agitated state of oil when viewed from the oil level

window. To rectify adjust the setting bolt and the valve plate (above 1 HP pumps)
While in the case of pumps less then 1 HP merely tighten the screws which hold the exhaust valve in place.

IN INSPLITE OF THE MENTIONED PRECAUTIONS AND MEASURE FULL VACUUM IS NOT ACHIEVED THEN THE PUMP WILL HAVE TO BE EXAMINADE. BY OUR MAINTENANCE / SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

-8-

NOISE
ACMEVAC rotary high vacuum pumps have got a unique exhaust valve design due to which they are operation under normal circumstances.

IN CASE OF ABNORMAL NOISE

- CHECK for loose I missing locking bolt on coupling - CHECK dismantles the motor & checks the rubber spider. If found spoiled, replace it. - CHECK oil level. If oil is less, a gurgling sound is heard. . - CHECK for displaced valve plate. for procedure check under 'VACUUM '.
MAINTENANCE & PRECAUTIONS
If suitable Vapour / liquid traps have been incorporated in the system and the procedure given as to how to start an? Stop the pump are closely. followed then the Pumps will give trouble free performance even when continuously used.

CHECK

- CHECK oil level and top up if necessary (every 15 days).

.

- CHECK oil is colour and change if necessary but not before cleaning the pump
as per the procedure on page no.

- CHECK rubber spider & replace if necessary.

- CHECK all pump and motor fitting bolts and tighten necessary.
-9-

- CHECK leakage of oil through shaft seal, replace oil seal if necessary.
OVERHAULING
1. Drain the oil removing the drain plug at the bottom of the oil chamber. Rotary the pump coupling by hand so that the working parts are also drained off oil. 2. Clean the oil chamber. , Refit the pump assembly back in the oil chamber. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE PUMP ASSEMBLY TO EXPOSE THE WORKING PARTS SINCE REFITTING THE SAME REQUIRES CONSIDERABLE SKILL AND MISFITTING WILL MAKE THE PUMP IRREPAIRABLE.
5.

3.
4.

Change gasket (oil chamber & coupling housing) with suitable on of same thickness. Refit on base frame and couple to motor and restart for further use.
