THE 59TH TEFLIN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE:

I. The Background Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can expand access to English programmes and improve the quality of teaching and learning in general. The World Wide Web expands the classroom context and provides access to current, up-to-date materials from the countries of the target language, offering learners and teachers a plethora of materials in different modes, bringing the foreign culture and language to life and making it more tangible. Considering the potential of ICTs in English education, TEFLIN (the association of Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia) will hold an international conference. II. The Theme The theme of the conference is English Language Learning and Teaching in the Digitization Era. III. The Goals The goals of the 59th TEFLIN International Conference are to achieve the followings: 1. to provide participants with some overview and understanding of the pedagogy and strategies of the teaching and learning of English in the digitization era; 2. to actualize all aspects related to the improvements of the pedagogy and strategies of the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language in Indonesia; 3. to share the latest issues of teaching and research related to the pedagogy and strategies of the teaching and learning of English language; 4. to encourage teachers of English to grasp for quality in terms of the pedagogy and strategies of the teaching and learning of English in order that they become more professionals.

IV. Topic Areas The conference will explore topics or issues related to its theme English Language Learning and Teaching in the Digitization Era. Topic areas include: 1. ICT and Language Teaching and Learning, 2. Teacher Training Development, 3. Teaching English for Content Subjects, 4. Classroom Management and Practice, 5. Cultural Aspects in ELT , 6. Language of Instruction, 7. Literary Texts in ELT , 8. Translation in ELT , 9. Language Assessment and Evaluation, 10. Language Pedagogy and Curriculum, 11. Materials Development and Design. V. Call for Papers The conference organizers invite English language teachers in schools, education institutes, universities; education administrators; policy makers; researchers and all those who are interested in the English language learning and teaching to submit their paper summary for parallel sessions and workshops presentations. A. Plenary-Speakers Sessions These are formal lecture presentations by distinguished scholars in their respective fields, with a forty-five minutes lecture plus a fifteen-minute session for questions and answers. B. Parallel Sessions These are formal lecture presentations with a sixty-minute lecture for three presenters (each spends twenty minutes including a session for questions and answers). C. Workshops In these thirty-minute sessions the participants are engaged in hands-on activities that have been carefully structured by the presenters.

VI. Date and Venue The 59th TEFLIN International Conference is going to be conducted: on 6 8 November 2012 ( 8 November is a half-day event) at Widya Mandala Catholic University, Jl. Dinoyo 42-44, East Java, Surabaya, Indonesia. VII. The Procedures for Submission of Paper / Workshop Summaries Below are the procedural points of the paper or workshop proposal submission:

A 500-word paper summary with a title not exceeding 12 words should be sent to the Conference Secretariat no later than 16 July 2012. Paper summaries outside the word limit will not be accepted. The Conference Organizing Committee will inform proposers by 15 August 2012 whether their proposals are accepted. Presenters are required to confirm participation with payment of registration fees by 1 October 2012 and to register for the seminar. A soft copy of the completed text of the paper accepted for the Conference must be sent to the Conference Secretariat no later than 27 October 2012. If these are not received by this date, the Committee reserves the rights to withdraw the paper from presentation.
VIII. Criteria of Acceptance All paper summaries will be evaluated based on relevance to the theme and topic of the Conference, latest issues of discussion and originality are among the major considerations in the acceptance of papers. The Committee reserves the right to decline paper/workshop proposals without assigning reasons.

IX. Copyrights/Publications The authors of the papers presented in the conference may propose to the committee to publish their papers in the proceeding, as far as they (the papers) have not been published. The committee reserves the copyright over all papers published in the proceeding. X. Conference Registration Fee Registration will be confirmed only upon receipt of the conference registration fee which is non-refundable. Fees up to 30 Sept. 2012 : IDR 875,000.00 This includes English fellows having KITAS. Fees after 30 Sept. 2012 : IDR 975,000.00 This includes English fellows having KITAS. Overseas participants : US$ 200.00 Seminar registration fee includes conference kits, morning and afternoon teas, and three lunches.
