It is a known problem which has been perpetuated over time as there was an assumption by others that this is the norm and because of socialisation that women were inferior to men.

IS THIS ISSUE IMPORTANT?


A lot of people suffer in silence. Some end up being disabled, die prematurely and the HIV and AIDS disease becomes rampant. Children become affected in schools because they are affected by the problems at home.

Activism. Holding campaigns. Issuing pamphlets. Partnering with law enforcement agencies Holding workshops and paralegals.

Men, women, boys girls, survivors and perpetrators. The local leadership. The police and nongovernmental organisations as well as Local Authorities and schools.

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender & Community Development is working with the Local Authority as well as organisations such as Zichire , Ruwa Community Development Association, Padare mens forum, Legal Resource Foundation, Musasa Project. Women are involved but men`s participation is lagging behind.

Feedback from Assisted Cases for last 5 months Nov 0 male, 15 females, 10 children. Dec: 1 male, 12 female, 8 children Jan: 2 male; 10 female, 15 children Feb: 3 male, 8 female, 10 children Mar: 7 male; 9 female, 12 children

IMPACT (BASED ON THE SADC PROTOCOL TARGETS)


PROJECTS: GBV PREVENTION

The project helps to achieve Articles1 4-11; which provides for constitutions in the region to enshrine gender equality , and 20 to 25; which makes a provision for the implementation of a variety of strategies including enacting, reviewing , reforming and enforcing laws aimed at eliminating all forms of gender based violence and trafficking.

The means for achieving these targets is through a coordinated approach and methods for information dissemination. Continuous campaigns, posters and pamphlets to the community.

People lack information and it is not a once off activity. Need for all stakeholders to work together as a team for meaningful results to be achieved.
