1. Purpose
2. Objectives
Scenario: During the glory days of the cosmopolitan Melaka Empire in the 15th
Century, many delegations from the Far East visited the entrepot trade centre for
cultural and commercial exchanges. One of the cultural activities passed on to the
local palace personnel was the Warriors’ Game – A Game of “Passion and
Compassion”.
The Game: Participants, divided into teams, will be invited into the Arena. Each
team comprises an equal number of warriors. The whole group of participants will be
led by a Bendahara (Group Leader) who will ensure the group is divided into the
required number of balanced teams . Each team in turn will be led by an elected
Panglima (Team Leader), who will be responsible for nominating the participating
warrior for each of the designated events. Each event will be announced in advance to
allow for strategising to be done before commencing (consultation allowed within 30
seconds).
Each team will put forward a warrior to contest in the event, which can be physical,
mental, emotional or psychological (or a combination of these) in orientation. The
aim of each warrior/team is to win the event. Team motivation is the key factor.
4. Event-by-Event Analysis
When the selected warrior enters the ring, he/she properly dons the designated garb with
the help of team members. The facilitating Mahaguru (Dr Ismail Noor) then briefs
warriors on the rules of the game/event. The combating warriors then offer their respect
to each other before the designated event starts. At the end of each event, the warriors
will simultaneously acknowledge the champion for the event. There will only one
champion for each event. After the winner is disrobed, the warriors then make way for
the next set of warriors to enter the ring. This is repeated until everyone in the team has
taken part in the Warriors’ Game event.
1. Warriors’ War Cry The warriors each kneel with heads held high and
with upstretched clenched hands pointing to the
sky, give a loud cry. The warrior with the longest-
lasting battle cry, with one breath, is the winner.
2. Warriors’ hunting expedition The palace warriors are ordered to hunt for deer -
riding their horses. The longest riding warrior, with
bow-and-arrow, will emerge the winner.

7. Warrior’s betrayal: punishment One of the warriors has betrayed, found guilty, and
punished. Sentence imposed. [Punishment pose].
10. Breathing contest The battle scenario in Old Melaka, was criss-crossed
with rivers. Warriors sometimes have to engage in
hand-to-hand combat in the rivers. They must have
sound breathing technique. With one deep breath,
The longest-lasting wins.
11. Phoenix-rising from the ashes! Warriors perform the act of posturing the phoenix
rising from the ashes and flying grandiosely in the
sky.
