INTERVIEW QESTIONS TEAM GREEN

Megan Benardi, 4th grade public school teacher. Teaching for 7 years. 1. How has your educational viewpoint changed throughout your tenure as a teacher? Has it changed drastically based on your experiences and seeing different methods work better for children?
I have come to the realization that I can make a difference in each students life and that I need to make effort to do so while I have the opportunity to.

2. Have you seen an improvement in your classroom since the No Child Left Behind Act?
I see improvements in the students but not much in the teachers. I see more frustration in the teachers .

Do you feel pressured or intimidated to meet the standards of the No Child Left behind Act? Yes, constantly 3. What is your own personal philosophy of education? How do you incorporate this belief into your classroom? Teach each child everyday like its your last opportunity to make a difference.
Giving my very best to them every day I teach. 4.

Seeing how you have taught for more than ten years do you see yourself as a role model to all your students as well as the staff you work with? I have only been teaching for 7 years,
but I already see myself as a role model for new teachers that come in right out of school and as well as my students.

How do you resolve problems when faced with a hostile parent or even a staff member?
So far, I have never run into a problem with any of my co-workers. As for my parents, I try to do everything possible to help fix the situation and then if I cant, I get the principle involved.

6. What is a philosopher most made an impact on you teaching style? 7. How do you incorporate his/her philosophy into your classroom? 8. Do your lessons incorporate different learning styles to meet each of the childrens learning styles? How do you accommodate all that into such a short time frame or day?
I have an assistant in my classroom who we work together at making an effective schedule for different students who we feel need extra help and she takes them one on one to help them. We work on a rotation basis with each student.

9. List three of your strengths and three weaknesses as a teacher and explain each one.
My strengths are I am always prepared, love my job and love making a difference, and Im very creative when it comes to teaching. Weakness is I try to do everything myself when I should ask for help. Need a little more variety of teaching styles to keep the kids interested in what I am teaching.

10. How do you teach kids to utilize higher-order thinking skills in your classroom?
I have them teach each other and quiz each other sometimes. They partner off and this seems to be a good exercise for them to engage their minds more.

11. Do you make learning fun for students? How? Children love to play, so therefore I make it as much
of a playful experience as I can with them. 12.

Describe a successful lesson. Tell why it was successful. When everyone seems happy at the end of
the day and my test and quiz score prove that they do listen to me and not zone me out!

13. Describe some methods of "positive reinforcement" that you might use in your classroom. Prizes and incentives. 14. How would you create a behavior modification for a student with ongoing behavior problems? This is done in-house with a group of teachers who are on a special team for this type of issues. So I
actually have no idea how I would do it.

15. Describe the biggest challenge you've ever had to face in the education system.
Being expected to teach and do more and more for the curriculum for students academics and added electives but not being compensated on my end. They want and expect more of us already overwhelmed teachers but not reward us in our paycheck for it.
