1. A wall of a cold room is composed of three layer.

2. A steam boiler furnace is made of fire clay. The hot gas temp inside the boiler furnace is 2100 `C,room air temp is 50`C,heat flow by radiation from gases to inside surface of the wall is 25.2 kW/m^2,convection heat transfer coefficient is 12.2 W/m^2 K,thermal conductance of the wall is 58 W/m^2K,heat flow by radiation from external surface to surroundings is 8.2 kW/m^2 and interior wall surface temperature is 1080^c Calculate for external surface 1. 3.The inside temp of refrigerator is -10^C and outside surface temp is 30^C and area is 30 m^2.This refrigerator consists of 2.2mm of steel at the inner surface,15mm plywood at the outer surface and 10cm of glass wool in between steel and plywood. Calculate the heat loss and the capacity of the refrigerator in tons of refridgeration.Assume K(Steel)=20 W/mK,K(Plywood)=0.05 W/mK,K(glass wool)=0.06 W/mK 4. A Steam to liquid heat exchanger area of 25.2 m^2 is constructed with 0.5 cm nickel and 0.1 cm plating of copper on the steam sides. The resistivity of a water-scale deposit on the steam side is 0.0015 K/W.The steam and liquid surface conductance are 5400 W/m^2 K and 560 W/m^2 K respectively. The heated steam is at 110^C and heated liquid is at 70 ^ C Calculate 1.) Overall steam to liquid heat transfer coefficient 2.) 5. A composite insulating wall has 3 layers of material held together by 4cm diameter Al (K=200 W/mK) rivet per 0.1 m^2 of surface. The layers of materials consist of 12 cm thick brick(K=0.90 W/mK) with hot surface at 220^C,22 cm thick timber(K=0.110 W/mK) with cold surface at

15^C.These 2 layers are interposed by a 3rd layer of insulating material 1.5 cm thick of conductivity 0.170 W/mK. Calculate the % increase in heat transfer rate due to rivets.

6.) Determine thermal conductivity of asbestos powder packed in between 2 consecutive Cu pipes 25mm and 36mm diameter length.The inner pipe housing has a heating coil to whicj 120 W power is supplied.The avg temp of inner and outer pipes are 42.4^C and 27.9^C respectively 7.) A steel pipe of 170mm inner diameter and 190 mm outer diameter with thermal conductivity 55 W/mK is covered with 2 layers of insulation.
