Procedure for OCC

1. Make the connections as shown in the gure 2. If all the connections are right then switch ON the DC Supply 3. Slowly increase the input voltage to the eld and nd the change in eld current of generator as well as in terminal voltage (output voltage) of generator 4. Take dierent values of eld current and record corresponding armature voltages into the observation table 5. For these readings plot a graph between eld current If and the output terminal voltage Vt . This plot is the O.C.C. characteristics of DC shunt generator 6. Draw a tangent line to this curve and nd the critical resistance. Critical resistance is the point on which the tangent drawn from the origin touches the O.C.C. curve

Procedure for Load Test

3. Slowly increase the input voltage to the eld and nd the change in eld current of generator as well as in terminal voltage (output voltage) of generator. Set the value of terminal voltage to the rated value (200V) 4. Measure the speed of generator it must be the rated speed since load is o yet 5. Now switch ON the load, you will observe that the terminal voltage drops to some considerable value 6. Increase load in some steps 7. Record load current as well as the terminal voltage 8.
