14 February: Sun Yat-sen agrees to resign as president in Yuans favour 15 February: Yuan Shikai declared President 9 April: National Assembly transferred to Beijing, which becomes capital of China. Tongmenghui and other parties created a new party, the Guomindang. 20 March: Leader of the Guomindang Song was shot at Shanghai train station and he died two days later. June: Yuan dismissed a number of provincial governors who had supported the Guomindang 12 July: Military action by forces loyal to the Guomindang against Yuan begins August: Sun Yat-sen and hundreds of Guomindang supporters flee to Japan

1917

20 July: Sun Yat-sen, establishes a military government in Guangzhou. Sun nominated as Grand Marshal

1918

April: A military committee replaced Sun.

1918-21 1921

Sun relocates to Shanghai, to reorganise his revolutionary political movement. Sun launches a military expedition. It largely fails. Sun returns to Shanghai,

1923

January: He deploys the armies of his warlord supporters and was able to oust Chen Xiongming 26 January: Sun enters negotiations with the Comintern. USSR agrees to assist in the unification of China. 21 February: Sun returns in triumph to Guangzhou. GMD further reorganised. Announces that it would base its politics on a modified version of Suns Three Peoples Principles Summer: Chiang Kai-shek goes to Moscow in the summer of 1923 for training.

1924

20-30 January: The founding congress of the reconstructed Guomindang took place in Guangdong. Manifesto issued based on Sun Yat Sens three guiding principles
