This source from the National Park Services' website lists many quotes from Abraham Lincoln where he addresses slavery in the United States. The quotes show Lincoln's reasoning why he was opposed to slavery, and also why slavery didn't make sense to him, as he believed southern farmers enslaved blacks for poor reasons. "Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America: A Biography / Edition 1 by William E. Gienapp." Barnes & Noble. Web. 03 May 2012. <http://search.barnesandnoble.com/AbrahamLincoln-and-Civil-War-America/William-E-Gienapp/e/9780195151008/>. I wasnt able to find the book on easy bib so this is a link to website. Web. 29 Apr. 2012. <http://sc94.ameslab.gov/tour/alincoln.html>. (Tim) This Article talks about Abraham Lincolns life. It is a quick biography on his whole life, from when he was born to when he died. The first half of the page is of no use to me. At the end of the page there was a list of achievements he had accomplished. He had successfully abolished slavery and saved the Union. It portrayed him as a humble man who only wanted to keep the peace in the U.S. As well as abolish slavery. I have no idea how credible this source is for it gives little publication information. "Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. Emancipation Proclamation. - Abraham Lincoln." Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation & 13th Amendment. Web. 06 May 2012. <http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/alhtml/alrb/step/01011863/001.html>.(Tim) These papers are the preliminary format for the Emancipation proclamation. They are written by Abraham Lincoln himself. They did not have to go through congress for the president has for control of the army, and these were only issued to the army. They show Abrahams first intentions towards freeing slaves before he addressed congress. Although it is a bit difficult to understand what he is saying. These papers are credible because it was signed by Abraham Lincoln himself and William H. Seward, the secretary of state at the time. "Abraham Lincoln." The White House. During some of his campaigns, before and during his presidency, tried to exploit this. This article talks about he was able to overcome this, without being nasty back. It really supports the honest Abe side of Abraham Lincoln. The end of the article does not really focus on Abraham Lincoln though. This article is credible, according to EasyBib. Dinesh D'Souza, Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite or Consummate Statesman, www.historynet.com, Published online June 12, 2006, American History magazine, 4/23/12, http://www.historynet.com/abraham-lincoln-tyrant-hypocrite-or-consummatestatesman.htm. (Tim) Not all people see Abraham Lincoln as a great president or even a good president. This article argues that Abraham was a tyrant and hypocrite. It talks about how Abraham did not intend to abolish slavery, and the beginning of the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. The article had many quotes from people of Abraham Lincoln's time and Abraham himself. There was compelling evidence that Abe was in fact racist and prejudiced towards black people. Abe Lincoln was not completely honest. There is evidence that he built up his identity as coming from a poor family in Kentucky. This article is credible, it was published by American History Magazine. I think it gives good insight from an opposite view of most people. "Featured Document: The Emancipation Proclamation." Featured Document: The Emancipation Proclamation. Web. 06 May 2012. <http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/featured_documents/emancipation_proclamation/trans cript.html>. The Emancipation Proclamation was a proclamation that was written by Abraham Lincoln at the time of the Civil War. In the document, Lincoln insured the freedom of allslaves from the 10 states that rebelled to start the Civil War. Lincoln intended on addressing the aspect of slavery after the victory in the Civil War, and this document shows his feelings about the issue. It is a primary source, so there is no distorted information Foner, Eric. "Lincoln's Interpretation of the Civil War." The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. THE GILDER LEHRMAN INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN HISTORY. Web. 06 May 2012. <http://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-by-era/americancivil-war/essays/lincolns-interpretation-civil-war>. (Tim) Eric Foner is a very credible author. He has written numerous historical books, some of which we have used in class. Foner talks about what Lincoln thought of the war. Lincoln was not ready for the size the war was going to take. Lincoln always avoided blaming anyone, or any group of people. It has an interesting perspective that we have not found yet. I think it will be very helpful in our research.
Fornieri, R, Joseph.. "Tracing the Roots of Lincoln's Democratic Vision." Magazine of History 1(2009):11. eLibrary. Web. 10 May. 2012.(Tim)

Abraham Lincoln made the American Dream. Before Lincoln there was no famous American that had come from almost nothing and became extremely successful. This scholarly journal goes into great depth about how Abraham Lincoln practically created the American Dream. He is the center of our culture. Because he stood for liberty, equality, the values that the United States were founded on, he has become an inspiration for all Americans. This source is credible because I found it on eLibrary. Goodwin, Doris Kearns. Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. New York:Simon & Schuster, 2005. Print. I believe that this book shows great insight into how Abraham Lincoln tried to create peace and not blame anyone for the war and bring the country together. It shows how he wasnt about winning and shows his values and what he truly believes is right. Our group can analyze his values used within his cabinet and is other political matters as well as the civil war and relate them to today. He is considered one of the best presidents of all time because his values are still alive today and we still believe in them.

This article went in depth on how he still has affected us well into the 21st century. He represents the best of Americans. Abraham Lincoln is a great example of the American Dream. He was born poor and grew up and became extremely successful. It said the biggest impact he has on us today is that he laid out the vision for how the country sees itself, as flawed but decent people. Generations today still embrace this vision. This article seems credible because it was written buy Heath Lenoble, who is a good writer. Lincoln, Abraham, and Roy P. Basler. The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln. New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers UP, 1953. Print. I think that this will be of some help to us as we can see his Gettysburg address and his second inaugural address. As well as any other works and writings that he did during the war and what the theme of them was. We can then compare these works to the outcome of the war and see what effect they had. i think that this is a very good primary source collection that will be valuable during our research to compare other secondary sources to and see if they are lying or not. (Tim) A common image of Abraham Lincoln is a honest man who came from humble beginnings. This web page showed Abraham Lincoln was just that. It talked about how he was a great politician who in the end was able to do many things. He was able to bring the United States very close, after fighting a war. Although there was some evidence that Abraham Lincoln started the war. For the most part Abraham was protruded as a man with morals. This website page was basically a compilation of quotes relating to Abraham Lincoln, with some commentary after. McPherson talks about President Abraham Lincoln during the time of the Civil War. It includes both the author's analysis of the time period and events, but also important quotes from Lincoln himself, showing his influence during 1860-1863. Thinking in Time: The Uses of History for Decision-makers. New York: Free, 1986. Print. This covers an immense amount of topics that this can relate to is endless but it is still helpful when corresponding to my source. I can learn many things from it, like how people may have been thinking in terms of their decisions and what they did. It may not be very helpful but it is worth a shot. I can learn what people may have been thinking when they made critical decisions across history and how it must have been. A good source that doesnt directly relate to my topic but still includes it broadly. I can also see if anything that Lincoln did effected others and relate the values he used to today. It is clear that she sees Lincoln as a man who would only stand for true equality, liberty, and justice. But in the south they did not celebrate Lincolns birthday.
