GENERAL
PI Components Corporation is a major industry supplier of remote components and systems. Remote seal systems are filled systems used with pressure transmitters when the process or installation conditions require it. Commonly used on aggressive or high temperature installations, remote seal systems protect the transmitter and its sensor from extreme conditions. Food and pharmaceutical production requires special sanitary connections that can be met with special seals and food grade fill fluids. Error Balanced Systems are available that combine direct-mount seals with remote-mount seals. This error balancing matches the ambient temperature performance of the direct-mount seal with the remote-seal on a single transmitter, thus s
greatly reducing the temperature error and maximizing performance. Since the DPharp transmitters are designed for use in a wide variety of applications and industries, diaphragm seal assemblies solve problems ranging from material compatibility to temperature extremes. s

Error Balanced Systems are the combination of direct-mount and remote seals with capillaries that are configured to eliminate the effects of ambient temperature changes. Filled systems are inherently affected by ambient temperature changes due to the fact that fluid trapped between the transmitter measurement diaphragm and the remote seal isolation diaphragm expands and contracts with temperature changes. This expansion and contraction can be interpreted as a process pressure change by the transmitter. In a balanced system used with a differential transmitter, the pressure changes in both seals is balanced and ignored by the transmitter. Un-balanced systems are composed of a direct-mount seal with a remote seal and capillary. Error Balancing is a technique used to make these un-balanced systems act as if balanced. This is accomplished by matching the temperature characteristics of the two systems through selecting offsetting spring rates and capillary diameters. In the end, the system performs as if balanced. Historically, diaphragm seal systems have relied on symmetrical legs where the capillary lengths and remote seals are identical on both sides of a differential pressure transmitter. In theory, having two identical legs would minimize errors since any ambient temperature effect would be equal and negated by the transmitter. While true, this is only one aspect of the total error equation with respect to complete diaphragm seal systems. Using an Error Balanced System, certain variables can be manipulated to decrease the total error in the system by creating equal and opposite errors, which effectively cancel each other. In addition to improving the temperature performance, often the response time can be improved. Error balancing is accomplished through a combination of fill fluid selection, capillary diameter and length, diaphragm thickness and diameters.
