Taxed to the T limit

ts time to do the taxes. Please follow along carefully. On line 7, put the total of all monies you received during the last year including what you found at the bottom of the vending machine, the dimes banging around in the washer and yes, even the five bucks you hope to get back for coming in last during your office NCAA brackets pool. On line 9a, add your ordinary dividends. Line 9b is for your qualified dividends. Line 9c is for your unqualified dividends that didnt measure up and were returned to the store. Add your other benefits, namely rental real estate, royalties, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, free T-shirts and unlimited soda refills. On line 6, try to convince us that you know what an S corporation actually is. Attach Schedule E, but not with Elmers Glue. If you do use Elmers Glue, subtract line 16. Combine the totals of lines 7 through 381, with the possible exception of line 89, which may be ineligible because of receiving non-permissible benefits while in high school. This is your total income for the year, which is a lot less than you thought it would be, huh? On line 16, attach Form 3903, but only if Form 3902 is busy and wont respond. On line 22, take a quick peek at line 21 and be scared, be very scared. Subtract line 36 from line 22 after adding lines 23 through 35. Add line 36 to line 49 and try to do it without a calculator or your smart phone. Multiply line 28 by line 40. Divide two Tylenol by six hours. On line 42, deduct your domestic production activities deduction but only if you have really been domestic all year and have never travelled to Wyoming or Peru. Combine the amounts in the far right columns for lines 73 through 96. This is your Pick 6 lottery winning number, so dont forget it and remember we get a percentage. On line 44, multiply $3,650 by the number on line 6d. If there is no number on line 6d, then multiply $3,650 by a number of your choice, as long as its 4. If the number on line 44 is not $3,650 but is actually $7,294, you are filling out someone elses income tax forms. You are almost at the end, but first must attach forms 8812, 8863, 5405, 4136 and 7529, although, to tell you the truth, there is no form 5405, and were just trying to have a little fun with you. OK, add lines 16, 32, 48, 53 and 64 and tell us which one doesnt belong. While youre at it, add lines 11, 23, 34, 71 and 80 through 89. These will be your total payments or the hike code that helped give the Giants the Super Bowl. If line 72 is more than line 60, youve probably made a mistake and should start all over again.

Just because theyre having a bad day, you cant fall into their realm and be ugly to them. Now that this chapter of her life is winding down, Parish is looking forward to spending more time with her family and enjoying hobbies such as wedding planning, floral design and crafts. Teresa has dedicated her life to this office, the men and women who work at the sheriffs office, and the citizens of the Durham County, Andrews said. She has been that voice on the other end of the line for the people and our deputies when help is needed. We salute her, and wish her much happiness in retirement.

DURHAM The Aggie-Eagle rivalry over the years has produced some real classics, but the stories didnt end on the best notes for some of the players who battled in them. Not all of the student-athletes who represented N.C. Central University and N.C. A&T State University earned their undergraduate degrees by the time the final whistles blew. Durhams Delbert DJ Kraze Jarmon is trying to do something about that with the second annual Old School Aggie-Eagle Hardwood Classic, which tips off March 31 at 7 p.m. in N.C. Central Universitys McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium. Proceeds from the event will go toward a fund to help former studentathletes at NCCU and A&T finish their undergraduate educations, Jarmon said. And not just basketball, Jarmon said. The scholarship fund will be for any athlete. Tickets for the event are $15 at the door but $10 in advance. For ticket information, call the NCCU ticket office at 919-530-5170. Doors open at 6 p.m. Jarmon, an NCCU alumnus, didnt play ball for the Eagles, but hes the main man behind the scenes of the hardwood classic. Clifton Daye used to get up and

down the floor for the Eagles. He doesnt plan on playing in the hardwood classic but is helping out with the event, its mission of helping former studentathletes finish school being something he wholeheartedly endorses. Especially for those who are focused and really want it, Daye said. I was blessed and fortunate to be able to do what I needed to do in four years. There hopefully will be a better turnout this time around at the hardwood classic, Jarmon said. Last years game A&Ts former basketball players won, by the way didnt turn a profit, so no money was generated to go toward scholarships, Jarmon said. Jarmon also is one of the organizers for Old School Alumni Weekend that reunites classmates from Durhams high schools. That event years ago started slowly before attendance picked up, so the basketball classic also may take a little time to get going, Jarmon said. We just want to keep it growing, Jarmon said. Information about both the hardwood classic and the alumni weekend is at www.oldschoolalumniweekend.com. This years hardwood classic is on the same day as NCCUs open house, so more high school seniors than normal will be on campus then. There will be an opportunity for those students to receive a limited number of tickets for free admission to the game, said Vonda Easterling, senior associate director

DURHAM - Durham resident J.C. Swansey remembers dragging the cord to her landline phone into the hallway of her college dormitory before leaving for class each day. When she returned, she would discover messages written on a board on her door. If the phone rang while she was gone, students would answer it, take a message, write it down and move on with their days without thinking twice. Now living in a world where a phone can tell her the balance of her bank account, suggest what food she might eat or enable her to video chat with her friends miles away, Swansey has witnessed countless changes in telecommunications. And in about a week, residents in the 919 area code will witness another and prepare their thumbs for a slight workout when dialing phone numbers. On March 31, 10-digit dialing for all telephone numbers in the area will be required. If residents dial a seven-digit number, that is, a local number without an area code, they will receive an automated response telling them to hang up and dial again. The 919 has had its time, and must move over for its successor, the 984. After 58 years with 919, the North Carolina Utilities Commission handed out almost all of the possible, seven-digit telephone combinations that could follow 919. The 919 area code is nearly exhausted. About 95 percent of its phone numbers have been used, said Switzon Wigfall, a senior operations analyst for North Carolina Utilities Commission. Wigfall predicts the 919 area code will
