The experimental setup: There are two isolated rooms made of glass beside each other containing two

heaters & two sensors. The first room is full of air while the second is full of water. We have two cases: 1- The first case is turning on the heater in the room full of air and the second heater is switched off and recording the readings that appears from the two sensors. 2- The second case is turning on the heater in the room full of water and the first heater is switched off and recording the readings that appears from the two sensors. About the two rooms: 1- Room 1 has thermal capacitance of C1 and can be assumed to have a uniform temperature T1. 2- Room 2 has thermal capacitance of C2 and can be assumed to have a uniform temperature T2. 3- Rooms 1 and 2 are heated electrically and the heat flow rates are q1 and q2 respectively. The dividing

wall between the two rooms has thermal resistance R. The components: 1- Heaters:

The Water Heater

The Air Heater

Experimental procedure:
1-The First Case (heat flows from the first room full of air to the second room also full of air): A-Determine the rooms temperatures before heating. B-Turn on the heater in the first room then observes the variation of the temperature in the first room and the temperature in the second room. C-Record the change in temperatures at different times D-Take these readings and calibrate the values of

T with q q
in

st,

then find R.

E-Calculate k from

R=l/ka.

F-Compare with the theoretical K.

2-The second case (heat flows from the first room full of air to the second room full of water): A-Determine the rooms temperatures before heating. B-Turn on the heater in the first room then observes the variation of the temperature in the first room and the temperature in the second room. C-Record the change in temperatures at different times D-Take these readings and calibrate the values of

T with q q
in

st,

then find R.

E-Calculate k from

R=l/ka.

F-Compare with the theoretical K. 3-The third case (heat flows from the second room full of water to the first room full of air): A-Determine the rooms temperatures before heating. B-Turn on the heater in the second room then observes the variation of the temperature in the first room and the temperature in the second room.

C-Record the change in temperatures at different times D-Take these readings and calibrate the values of

T with q q
in

st,

then find R.

E-Calculate k from

R=l/ka.

F-Compare with the theoretical K.
