Three additional 5A LCHG boards are configured 2.5 Principle 2.5.1 Operation principle of ZXUPS S6 series The ZXUPS S6 series are online UPS products. Sine wave is output online, with automatic bypass and maintaining bypass. When the input mains supply is in the normal range, the mains supply is rectified to direct current via PFC and then inverted to 50Hz pure sine wave, which will go through the inverter switch and is output to the load. In the meanwhile, the charger charges the battery. When the mains supply is abnormal, the batteries are inverted to 50Hz pure sine wave and output to the load via the inverter switch. When the UPS is overloaded or the inversion is abnormal, it will be powered through the bypass. When the equipment breaks down and needs repair, the mains supply is provided to the load via the manual switch. The ZXUPS S6 series provide ideal power supply with two-stage conversion and DSP control technologies. Basically, this system works in 3 modes: Normal mode, battery mode and bypass mode. In each mode, power is provided to the load to support the operation. In normal mode, the mains supply is filtered in the EMI filter to reduce peaks and noise and then transmitted to the rectifier and the PFC circuit. The rectifier and PFC circuit rectifies the AC and regulates to a steady DC, which will function as the power of the inverter. In the mean while, it forces the input current to follow the input voltage dynamically, resulting in the sine curve input current waveform and approximate 1 power factor, so that the harmonic wave reflected to the power is minimum. When the AC becomes abnormal or the AC input voltage and power exceed the threshold, the equipment will switch over to battery mode. In battery mode, the charging activities of the AC rectification circuit and UPS will stop. The system will work in this mode until the battery is consumed to the lower limit. When the mains supply is recovered, UPS will check the power and return to normal mode after tracing and synchronizing the frequency. In the bypass mode, UPS automatically switches over to the AC power, which is provided to the load. The block diagram of the ZXUPS S6 series is as shown in Fig. 5. Fig. 5: Block diagram of the ZXUPS S6 series ZXUPS S6 series technical specification ZTE Confidential Proprietary 11 2.5.2 Working mode of the ZXUPS S6 series The ZXUPS S6 series can work in the following modes: Mains supply synchronization mode, mains supply a synchronization mode, battery mode, bypass mode and maintenance mode. 1. Mains supply synchronization mode In this mode, the AC input of UPS is in the normal range, frequency of the mains supply is in the phase-lock range, the load capacity is within the threshold of the UPS and UPS works normally. This is the commonest work mode of UPS. In this mode, UPS provides high quality AC power for the load through rectification and inversion on one hand, and charges the battery through the APC board or LCHG board on the other. 2. Mains supply a synchronization mode In this mode, the AC input of UPS is in the normal range, frequency of the mains supply is out of the phase-lock range, the load capacity is within the threshold of the UPS and UPS works normally. 3. Battery mode When the AC input of the UPS is interrupted, the equipment automatically switches over to Battery mode. In this mode, the battery, through the inverter, outputs AC to the load. At this time, the equipment gives alarms at intervals. When the AC input is recovered, the equipment switches over to the Mains supply synchronization mode unremittingly. 4. Bypass mode The Bypass mode falls into two types: It can automatically switch over to Mains supply synchronization mode or Mains supply a synchronization mode with/without human intervention.

When the UPS is overloaded to a threshold or UPS is under the impact of excessive load, the equipment automatically and unremittingly switches to Bypass mode. The AC mains supply is provided for the load. When the overload or surge is eliminated, the system automatically switches over to Mains supply synchronization mode. When the AC power is cut off, mains supply is abnormal and the battery is exhausted, or the UPS breaks down seriously (Fault level 3 and 4. Refer to Section 5.2.5), the equipment will shut down and switch over to Bypass mode. After that, the equipment must be restarted to return to the Mains supply synchronization mode. 5. Maintenance mode The equipment should be set to the maintenance mode when UPS and battery should be maintained. At this time, the AC input is provided for the load. The maintenance switch on the back panel of the equipment is set to BYPASS maintenance status. You can power off internal equipment for maintenance. For detailed operations, please refer to Section 6.3. 2.5.3 Serial hot backup of ZXUPS S6 series ZXUPS S6 series support serial hot backup. It means that the output of the standby UPS is connected with the bypass input of the active UPS. The mains supply input of the standby UPS is connected with that of the active mains supply input in parallel. ZXUPS S6 series technical specification ZTE Confidential Proprietary 12 In normal operation, the active UPS provides energy for the active UPS and the standby UPS is in idle hot backup. As shown in Fig. 6, the thick line indicates the energy flow of the hot backup system. Note: The two UPSs in hot-backup connection cannot share one battery set. Instead, they should have independent batteries. Fig. 6: Energy flow of the ZXUPS S6 system in hot-backup status When the active UPS becomes abnormal, it goes to the bypass and the standby UPS will take over to provide energy for the load, as shown in Fig. 7. The thick line indicates the energy flow of the hot-backup system when the host breaks down. Fig. 7: Energy flow of the ZXUPS S6 system in hot-backup status when the host breaks down ZXUPS S6 series technical specification ZTE Confidential Proprietary 13 2.6 Supervision Networking of ZXUPS S6 2.6.1 RS232 serial port networking mode The ZXUPS S6 series are connected with the serial ports of the background monitoring PC through RS232 serial cables. On the background PC, UPSmart is run to execute remote monitoring of the ZXUPS S6 series. In this way, as many as four units of ZXUPS S6 series can be monitored. 2.6.2 SNMP networking mode The SNMP board is installed in the SNMP slot inside the ZXUPS S6 series. With the SNMP board, the UPS can be managed remotely through the network. The SNMP board is compatible with 10M/100M Ethernet, supporting SNMP, HTTP, TFTP, TELNET, TTY protocols. The hot-swapping design facilitates component replacement. The NM system is accessed through the MIB library and the ZXUPS S6 series are monitored via Internet Explorer or other browsers.
