1. BACKGROUND
Flumes: Flumes are primary devices that constrict an open channel flow for measurement of flow rate. Once a flow rate is backed up behind a constriction, there is a defined relationship between the depth of the stream and the flow through the constriction.

Parshall Flumes: A parshall flume has special shaped open channel flow section which may be installed in ditch, canal to measure the flow rate. It is named after it developer-Ralph L Parshall. Parshall flume was invented when problems with stream measurement were encountered. When this flume is placed in a channel, flow is related to water depth. Parshall flumes have wide flow ranges, resistance to submersion and are simple to calibrate. Parshall flumes are sized by throat widths.

3. RATIONALE OF STUDY
De- silting basin is very beneficial especially for a country like Nepal where hydropower has a greate scope. De-silting basin is applied in various aspects like irrigation, reservoir and hydropower which are used in many numbers in a country like Nepal where there is a lot of hydropower potential..The erosion of hydraulic structures can cause a great economical loss.So in order to prevent such losses,De-silting basin can be of great use.

4. OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this project to design De-silting Basin model. Other specific objectives are: To find out how the sediments are removed for better and more efficient result Knowledge about its application in various sectors like water reservoir, hydropower, pisciculture and irrigation. To learn about the working principle of the de-silting basin

5. METHODOLOGY
6.1 Desk Study The first and the foremost task will be desk study. We got ourselves busy with different books and websites so that we could be familiar with our project topic. We extracted useful information as much as possible. 6.2 Consultation We had supervisors help us and give us some ideas for our project. 6.3 Proposal Submission After quite a lot of research we finally prepared a proposal for our project. 6.4 Field Visit Various field visits shall be made since this project helps us get involved into subject matter practically rather than theoretically. We will be visiting hydropower stations

and irrigation sites where we can get to learn more about de-silting basin models and get to know about its working principle. After the various field visits we will design the model in autocad. The model shall be fabricated in the workshop. Finally, the basin will be tested in the workshop lab.

8. EXPECTED OUTCOME:
At the end of the project, it is expected to develop the graph that provides the detail information regarding: 1. The efficiency of the de-silting basin in different seasons. 2. The variation of the sediments size and concentration with the different seasons and the location on the same time. 3. The comparison result of the constructed dimension of the de-silting basin with the calculated dimensions. 4. The project is believed to arouse interest in engineering practices in engineering students like us.
