Over the Years

History of San Juan National High School Bon Robert A. Luzon

Addressing the clamour to build a state-funded secondary educational institution, on April 27,1997, the school was established through a Sangguniang Bayan Resolution creating a community high school funded by its Local Government that was approved by then Municipal Mayor Dr. Orlando K. Tan and with incepted its operation through the memorandum circular released by then Education Secretary Ricardo Gloria. The first administrator designated for the institution was Mr. Pablo V. Suarez concurrent to his position as the College Director of then, San Juan Polytechnic College (SJPC). Suarez served until June of 2000 when the Commission of Higher Education mandated the separation of Laboratory High Schools among the State Colleges and Universities nationwide. Mrs. Rahcel Rubio Cuevas fresh from her promotion to Head Teacher position later took charge in the administration of the institution replacing her predecessor. It was on the opening of the School Year 2001, during the administration of Mrs. Cuevas, that the school was formally recognized as a National High School duly funded by the National Government through the Annual Appropriations Act and thus became subjected to the jurisdiction of now-defunct Department of Education Culture and Sports (now being called as the Department of Education) by virtue of the Republic Act 9109 signed and approved by the President of the Republic of the Philippines. On the same year, the formal structural arrangement of the organization was finalized paving the way t the Departmentalization of the teaching personnel in accordance to the subject area theyre teaching to. The increase of 30% of student population on 2003 was brought by the closure of all laboratory high schools in every State Colleges and Universities as per mandated by the CHED in which the former Southern Leyte State Colleges of Technology (SLSCT, formerly known as SJPC and currently the SLSU San Juan Campus) is one. Such memorandum motivated the transfer of some 8 teaching personnel of the SJPC High School Department to SJNHS that collaborates to the increase of teaching personnel in the institution. The increase of student population brought the burgeoning demand of greater facilities and more well-equipped teaching personnel for the school to manage the continuity of its academic and administrative operations in so that a massive hiring of teaching personnel came to be in 2004 until 2006.

On the year 2006, Computer Education was integrated to the elective subjects of Technology and Livelihood Education. Students enjoyed the guarantees of different features of the newly introduced technology as they learned more things from it as well. They became more equipped in all the manipulative and technical skills thus the institution was dubbed as the Home of the ICT Wizards across the schools of the Pacific Area. It has brought a lot of accomplishments bringing the students to increase their competitiveness in indulging national competitions. Along with such, the advancement of skills and knowledge of the students rose the improvement of the campus, it has mounted so many edifices and brought out highly advanced educational facilities to provide basic secondary education at more quality amongst the youth. In 2010, the administration introduced the different curricula that the school is offering , in particular theyre the Curriculum for Special Science Class (SSC) , Curriculum for the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) and the Open High School System Program (OHSSP) that offers module-base secondary education in line with the thrust of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program of the Department of Education to carry out their goals to stand as the fountainhead of ceasing secondary drop outs and Out of School Youth (OSY) and Out of School Adults (OSA) as well. A change in administration on 2011 drove the institutionalization of the different departments in the school which were appropriately built to enhance technical relationships and proper professional management of the personnel coming from the different functional groups of the institution such as the Administrative, Instructional & Academic and finally Physical Facilities and Properties. Over the years, the institution continually increases its capability and efficiency of educating Secondary Education learners without levying any amounts of matriculation fee to the general public thus contributed to the quest of the government to achieve general welfare and quality life and will remain to be so for the posterity and so forth.
