Child sexual abuse, child rape and child molestation are three phrases a majority of people in Pakistan dont

speak of. Even spreading awareness and creating prevention against these vicious acts is considered shameful. As a result of this mindset, the children of this country suffer grievous and painful mental and physical torture; all because no one spoke up or protected them. Sexual abuse is committed at large number in Pakistan. In 2010 a total of 2, 252 children were sexually abused throughout the country. A total of 4,543 abusers were involved in abusing 2,252 everyday last year. Almost 67 percent of the cases were reported from rural areas whereas 33 percent were reported from urban areas. The statistics mentioned above are those that have been recorded. I wonder what the exact number is of such child abuse incidents that are unreported. A recent article published in an online newspaper in Pakistan, had a story written about a 17 year old street boy who was sexually abused at the age of 12, has now become a pimp of a group of 17 young stray kids. It further read that 60% of the police is involved in physically abusing these kids. If you are going to curse the police, you should reconsider keep your emotions aside. Im not only accusing the police for committing this heinous act. Most of the stories regarding child sexual abuse occur at home, where immediate relatives are involved. Parents do not wish to create an issue, if their child complains of going through any sexual abuse by elder family members. They dont consider to think about their childs allegations just to save the family name. I also wonder what men and women, who claim to be scholars of Islam, have done to stop this crime from spreading. As far as I am aware, a renowned religious personality of Pakistan was recorded saying that it is unfortunate for such incidents to occur in the country. He also added that there is a punishment for illegitimate relationships between adults (Zina) but not for child sexual abuse. Then he blamed the judiciary and police of the country for not creating laws against it. I now leave you with the following questions: 1) How would you feel if your son or daughter was sexually assaulted? 2) Why are we so insensitive when it comes to caring for others children? 3) Should we let the police commit such acts with innocent kids? Who are these kids to ask for help, if those who are appointed to protect are the ones raping and misusing them? 4) Have you ever heard any scholar talk against this disgusting act happening in our society and provide a solution for it? If not, then why dont they? Bear in mind that they are very out spoken when protesting and rallying against the government on the streets. 5) And finally what is your solution to end child sexual abuse in Pakistan?
