People: Amen LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading (Sitting) Reader: A Reading from the book of Genesis (2, 18-24) Then the Lord God said It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him. So he took some soil from the ground and formed all the animals and all the birds. Then he brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and that is how they all got their names. So the man named the birds and all the animals; but not one of them was a suitable companion to help him. Then the Lord God made the man fall into s deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, he took out one of the mans ribs and closed up the flesh. He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him. Then the man said, At last, here is one of my own kind-bone taken from my bone, and flesh from my flesh. Woman is her name because she was taken out of man. That is why a man leaves his father and mother, and united with his wife, and they become one. -The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm Ps 103, 1-5 Response: The Lord is kind and merciful. Reader: Praise the Lord, my soul! All my being praise his holy name! People: The Lord is kind and merciful. Second Reading Reader: A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Colossians (3, 12-17) You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another as the Lord has forgiven you. And to all these qualities add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity. The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make; for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one body. And be thankful. Christs message in all its richness must live in your hearts. Teach and instruct one another with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns and sacred songs; sing to God with thanksgiving in your hearts. Everything you do are say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father. -The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Jesus answered, Havent you read the scripture that says that in the beginning the Creator made people male and female? And God said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and united with his wife, and the two will become one. Man must not separate, then, what God has joined together.
