101 130 Research Paper Nazi Propaganda In 1924 the start of Nazi Propaganda began. Adolf Hitler wrote a book that clearly expressed his thought and ideas on National Socialismamong them racism, anti-Semitism, and antiBolshevism. Adolf Hitler wrote, The function of Propaganda is to attract supporters, the function of organization to win members..Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea.(qtd in Nazi Propaganda). This was the beginning of the biggest horror Germany and the Jewish people would ever face. Nazi propaganda helped many Nazi soldiers and Adolf Hitler carry out racism as a whole country. There was Nazi propaganda about many aspects in the German community. However, Nazi propaganda against Jews was to specifically convey certain thoughts or ideas against the Jews. According to the United Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in 1933 Hitler appointed Joseph Goebbels as the head of Reich ministry for the public

enlightenment and propaganda just to ensure messages were being communicated through all avenues such as art, music, theatre, films,

books, radio and educational materials.(Propaganda Timeline) With so much being controlled by the Nazi it was very difficult for the German people to know what was really going on. The Germans and the Jews were being very much misled through this propaganda. Once Goebbels

was appointed head of Reich ministry it was nearly impossible for the Germans people to receive anything other then the propaganda the Nazis were presenting. In addition the article explains how in 1927 the Nazi party begins producing propaganda films to show in film mobiles in rural areas. Germans were reminded of the struggle against foreign enemies and Jewish subversion constantly. To the Nazi that was their threat to the German people. According to the article on September 23, 1939 all Jews were required to surrender radio sets to authorities. By May of 1940 all German radio stations were synchronized (USHMM).Goebbels was very serious about his position in controlling the media and educational material. Goebbels propaganda materially aided Hitlers rise to power in 1933. Goebbels used all media of education and communications to further nazi propagandist aims, Goebbels was trying to install in the Germans the concept of their leader as a veritable God and of their destiny as the rulers of the world (Joseph Goebbels).Through the media and educational materials the Nazi propaganda had the Germans deceived. Furthermore, through that deception the Nazi were able to exterminate more then 6 million Jews. According to the USHMM propagandist cast Germany as a victim or potential victim of foreign aggressors, as a peace loving nation forced to take up arms to protect its populace (Deceiving the Public). In addition to the Nazi propaganda against Jews, the German people could not conceive the thought of thousands of Jews being exterminated daily. According

to the USHMM, one leader of the Jewish resistance in Warsaw states, Common sense could not understand that it was possible to exterminate tens and hundreds of thousands of Jews, (Deceiving the Public). Propaganda served as a tool to win over the German public who had not supported Adolf Hitler and, according to the mass number of Jews that were exterminated, the propaganda certainly did its job in containing the people of Germany and keeping them blind enough to let it happen. The article further explains how the Nazi leadership aimed to deceive the

German population, the victims, and the outside world regarding their genocidal policy toward the Jews. The regime practiced a propaganda of deception by hiding specific details about the Final Solution and with press controls preventing Germans from reading statements by Allied and Soviet leaders condemning German crimes (USHMM).One can see how the public could be misled when there is no other source of information other then what was provided by the Nazi propagandist. It is sad that even the children were subject to this horrible misleading information at a young age. According to The Nizcor Project anti- Sematic publications during the Hitler years demonstrate that anti- Semantic publications was taught before children were six or seven years of age. There was no single target of natzification that took higher priority then Germanys young. Racism was taught through childrens books, art and all educational materials (Propaganda and Children During The Hitler Years). Also, the Germans used pictures to portray ugly distorted pictures of the Jews next to a character of physical

appearance which was the German. The Jew is depicted as the antithesis of these qualities (Propaganda and Children During The Hilter Years). Furthermore, the propaganda focused on many aspects about the Jewish appearance and trust worthiness, but according to USHMM one Nazi propaganda poster in particular targeted and intended to install fear amoung the Christian Poles in Poland. One poster declared, Jews are lice the cause typhus (Nazi Propaganda against Jews). This was just another psychological technique the Germans were using through propaganda. In addition, as reported by the Jewish Virtual Library a major tool of Nazi propaganda was the weekly paper Der Sturmer (The Attacker). Apparently, in this paper at the bottom of the front page in bold print on every issue it stated, The Jews are our misfortune, followed by cartoons of Jews where they looked apelike and had hooked noses. In addition, the article states the influence of the paper was tremendous, by 1938 about half a million copies were distributed weekly (History of the Holocaust-An Introduction). The article explains how the Nazis had more than just propaganda up their sleeves. On February 27, 1933 the Reichstag building burned. A Dutchman Marinus van der lubbe was arrested and charged for the crime. Although, many suspected the Nazis were responsible, the Nazis used this and managed to blame the Communist, thus turning more votes their way (Jewish Virtual Library). Furthermore stated in the German Propaganda archive Greater Germany was the first to find a legal way to separate from the alien Jewish people (The Jewish Problem). According to the Holocaust Shoa page Hitler found a scapecoat for Germanys losing the war and found it in the Jews, Hitler outlined his belief that if Germany were to be strong it must be united on the principal of racial purity. Hitler made it very clear as early as 1924 that it would be necessary to rid Germany of all Jews. IN conclusion one can see how the Nazis were using propaganda to

target their allies, their younger generation, their soldiers, and their nation in its entirety, Nazis used propaganda to install fear in German people by not only accusing the Jews of starting the war but also spreading plagues such as typhus. In addition the Nazis tried to corrupt their youth by controlling the education material, cartoons, and every source of information that was conveyed. The Nazis used their surroundings and their misfortunes to blame the Jews, thus being able to convince the majority by portraying themselves as the victims that had no choice but to stand up for their nation.
