NUMBER THEORY
NATURAL NUMBERS:- The number used for counting are called natural numbers. Thus 1,2,3,4,...... etc., are all natural numbers. WHOLE NUMBERS:- All numbers together with 0(zero) are called whole numbers. Thus, 0,1,2,3,4,5,.... etc., are whole numbers. Clearly, every natural number is a whole number but 0 is a whole number which is not a natural number. INTEGERS:- The whole numbers together with the negatives of counting numbers are known as integers. Thus, ......5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,..... etc., are all integers. The positive integers are: 1,2,3,4.....etc. The negative numbers are : -1,-2,-3,-4,.............. etc. Zero is neither positive nor negative. Clearly positive integers are same as natural numbers.

Origin A number to the right of a given number is greater than the given number. Every positive integer is greater than any negative integer. Zero is less than every positive integer. Zero is greater than every negative integer. -1 is the greatest negative integer. We cannot find the greatest positive integer or the smallest negative integer.

FRACTIONS
FRACTIONS:- The number of the form of p/q, where p & q are positive integer and q = 0, is called fractions. e.g. , , are fractions.

Numerator Division line or Bar Denominator

Equivalent Fractions:- Fraction which indicate the same fractional number are said to be equivalent fractions. The fraction which have 1 as numerator are called unit fractions To multiply a fraction by a whole number, we just multiply the numerator of the fraction by a whole number. The denominator remains the same. Thus, A fraction x a whole number = Number of fraction x Whole number Denominator of a fraction To multiply two or more fractions, we multiply the numerators of the given fractions to obtain the numerator of the product and multiply the denominators of the given fractions to obtain the denominator of the product. Thus, Product of two fractions = __Product of their numerator__ Product of their denominator If the product of two fractions or a fraction or a whole number is 1, then either of them is called the multiplicative inverse of the other. To divide a whole number by a fraction, we express the whole number as an improper fraction by writing 1 in the denominator and then divide as usual. To multiply a decimal by a whole number , we multiply whole numbers ignoring the decimal point. Then, we insert the decimal point in the product in such a way there are as many decimal places in the product as in the given decimal. To divide a decimal by a whole number, we carry out the division by considering the dividend a whole number. Put the decimal point in the quotient by considering the dividend a whole number part of the dividend gets completed.
