Builing Leadership in Nutrition for South East Asia


Building leadership skills among nutritionists in South East Asia region is an important capacity building strategy to address nutrition problems in the communities, especially the poor. In order to have a profound multiplier effect of the program, there should be critical mass of leaders in nutrition in the region. The SEA-NLP is part of the ENLP (European Nutrition Leadership Program) network. The SEA-NLP is organized by the SEAMEO (South East Asian Ministry of Education Organization) TROPMED (Tropical Medicine and Public Health) RCCN (Regional Centre Community Nutrition) at the University of Indonesia. The SEANLP is aimed to: Prepare participants with competencies of leadership including team building and communication skills in nutrition, Enable participants to act as catalyst/advocate on the importance of nutrition, Equip participants with a greater understanding on the role of nutrition in development, Facilitate forum of networking for future collaboration.

The Core Program of SEA-NLP


1.Effective Team Building Combination of outdoor and indoor activities with the exercising on communication and teamwork. 2.Core of effective leadership: a. Leadership in theory b. Leadership in practice c. Leadership and Innovation d. Leading growth e. Managing change 3.Essential in communication: a. Communication theory b. Facilitation skills c. Integrated communication plan d. Social marketing: promotion and advertising 4.Nutrition update topics: a. Update paradigm shift in nutrition as a global situation and its adaptation in the regional context b. Update future trends in nutrition and nutrition research in universities, institutes and food industry c. How to get your research published d. The role of nutritionists in industry 5.Networking The need to work in teams and committees as well as interactions with senior faculty members provided the opportunity for participants to develop their experience of the leadership from 'senior leaders' in an informal way during after dinner speech. 6.Additional program in practicing skills of leadership Every participant will be assigned in different teams and committees, in which each participant has different roles (either as leader or team member) to perform different tasks

The requirements to join the program: South East Asians younger than 40 years of age, with at least Master degree, on going PhD students or fresh PhD graduates in human nutrition. A good health and proficiency of English is necessary to be able to fully engage with all activities.
