C ENG 1102 4/11/2012

The video game takes place during 1100 to 1300 A.D. the time of the Crusades. While playing, the gamer will fight their way through history by completing missions, pillaging, and conquering the holy land. The gamer should progress through the game learning about what caused the Crusade, what helped the Crusade last as long as it did but they will not learn how it ended, this part of the game has been open to change. Instead the players will be fighting over the city of Jerusalem to see who in the end would own the city. This was a crazy but amazing era of time. Some new arts of combat along with new types of skills were learned during this time period. Many people think that the Crusades were a time where the Catholic Church sent out soldiers to convert people to the Christian faith and if they didnt they were slaughtered. None of these are in fact true instead the war was a holy war and the Christians did not win. The period of the crusade lasted so long that it had many leaders. The people involved with this time period were England, France, Germany, The Dutch, and Italy. On the Muslim side of the things there werent really a certain group of people that fought just for the Muslim side. In the beginning the Turks were the ones who initiated the Crusade by attacking Jerusalem. This put the Catholic Church in an uproar and caused a chain reaction of recruiting and readying the forces of the main European countries for war. During the first crusade the Christians were successful of recapturing the city of Jerusalem but during the later battles soon to come they would lose Jerusalem forever. This was because during the first crusade the Muslims werent under any main commander nor were they all fighting for the same cause. Soon after the first crusade a man named Saladin would change this. He

would focus all of the Muslim countries to rally under him and take back what they thought they deserved the city of Jerusalem. The gamer will start off as a level 1 in their races beginner town. They will have daily quest of peasant life that will level them up to level 5. Once they reach this level they are recruited by someone of their faith to recruit them for the holy war. Once recruited they will be given a trainer and begin to practice their role which will depend on which side they choose. If the player chooses the Christian faith then they can be a Knight, a Wizard, an Archer, a Priest, or an Inquisitor. If they choose the faith of the Muslim their choices are a Warrior, an Assassin, a Sorcerer, a Prophet, or a Hunter. From level 5 to level 15 players will be given missions to complete that will help you build your skills. Once level 15 they will be shipped to Headquarters and meet your king and leader of battle. From there they will be sent towards the holy land outpost of the chosen faith. On the way the players can meet friends to help them with their missions/quest and possibly kill or be killed by foes that can have gained access to their faiths outpost. By the time you reach your outpost you will be around level 45. The gamer is now ready to change the history of the Crusades. Along the way the player have learned what the crusades were about and how your side was affected or affected the time period. Now its up to the gamer to change the outcome of the Crusades. Once gamers have chosen their side they will be able to choose a race from the areas that practiced these religions. On the Muslims side people can choose from Egyptian, Turkish, Tribe-man, or Saracen. If the individual chooses to be a Christian the races include English, German, French, or Dutch. These were the main races that were involved or surrounded the area during the Crusades. After choosing their race they will be able to customize the look of the character. This gives the gamers character a defining look that they will find fitting to what they want to look like. Once this phase of character creation is done they will be able to name the character and begin their journey into the world of the Crusades. As mentioned earlier once players have reached level 5 they can choose their calling.

Each calling has its role in the Crusades. All of the callings also were involved in the time period of the Crusades as well. Some may seem unreal but during the time period people were thought to have powers of the supernatural. Knight- The knight is a warrior in full metal armor and was a kings main soldier during times of war. The knight will be able to train in the ways of the sword, axe, mace, and shield. Whether it is on the frontlines with a shield and sword ready for war or charging in two-hander swinging, the Knight is a powerful foe and can change the outcome of any battle. Wizard- Even though there were no such things as actual wizards some people were thought to have such powers during this time. Wizards will have the ability to learn fire, air, and earth abilities. They will be able to conjure monsters of these elements and master spells that can cause damage, snares, and abilities that can cause a player unable to control its character for very brief periods of time. These abilities can sway the way of a battle. The wizard will only wear cloth armor but will make up for it in their spells. Where other callings can only focus on one or two enemies the wizards spells can hit multiple targets and cause mass destruction over a large area. Be wary when coming across one of these in battle. Archer- The archer was just coming around during this time period. They had just invented the Longbow which instead of arrows reaching up to a couple hundred yards, arrows would fly 4 times as far. Archers will have the ability to launch arrows at a longer range that any other calling in the game. Archers will be able to shoot many arrows at once over an area or focus their arrows at once person with deadly aim. Archers will have difficulty penetrating the shields of warriors but can take out open targets from a safe distance with ease. An archer could be all you need to have to win the battle. Priest- Priest were part of the church but not head of the church. Priests were thought to have magical healing powers. In this game a priest will have magical healing powers. The priest will be able to perform heals for his allies in many different ways. Some of those ways include healing burst which

heals the priest allies in spurts over a period of time. You will also be able to throw direct heals onto players that will heal them for a percentage of their health. Another way the priest can heal its allies is throwing a heal circle on the ground around allies that heals them for certain amount of health every so many seconds. The priest keeps his faithful allies alive and keeps them on the battlefield. Inquisitor- The inquisitor was a torturer during the Crusades time period. They would torture witches and warlocks for truths they committed against the church. Inquisitors will be able to do many things. They will be able to train in the skills of death and fire as well as daggers. The inquisitor will only be able to wear cloth armor so they will not be much protected but can deal high amounts of damage fast as well as heal themselves for small portions at a time. Inquisitors will be fun battlefield characters but also could be fun for solo adventures out into the holy land to seek revenge for the church single handedly. Warrior- The warrior is a burly fighter and not really what they were. The warriors are based off Muslim knights, but you cant have two knights in a game, that would be no fun so they have been renamed as Warriors. Warriors will have the ability to wear chain mail and train in the arts of axe, mace, whips, and shields. Like knights they can be front line fighters or wield massive weapons which cause massive destruction. Unlike knights they will not fight fairly, warriors will kick, bite, punch, and spit his way to victory. Be on the look-out for these savage fighters. Sorcerer/Sorceress- Sorcerers were kind of like wizards of this time but like most of the Muslim faith they were thought to be dark wizards. They were thought to have dark powers that could make you feel cold to the bone. As a sorcerer players will be able to use these kinds of powers. A sorcerer will be able to study the art of Ice, Fire, and Death. They will be able to do great amounts of damage, snare, and raise dead minions. With these abilities a sorcerer has endless potential it can bring to the battle and if not careful destroy all enemies in its path.

Assassin- Assassins were perfected during this time period. They were used to hunt down one of the Muslim leaders (Saladin) when a new king of Egypt came into power. Once that new king mysteriously died Saladin used them in his armies. Assassins with have ability no other calling will have. They will have the ability to stealth or be invisible to other characters. If they get too close to enemies however they can be seen until they move away giving the enemy a glimpse they are there. They will also have the ability to train into the lines of daggers, swords and trickery. Trickery will be unfair abilities given to assassins. Things in treachery can include black eggs which cause stuns, poisons, and styles you can use out of stealth. Though these characters will be great on the battlefield for destroying soft armored enemies they are also good for spying on the enemy and maybe reeking single vengeance on the enemy. Players of the opposite faith should be on the look-out for these stealthy beings. Prophet- Prophets were tellers of the future and even though most were wrong they did exist. They werent part of the church but some say they had healing powers. Prophets will have abilities that heal their allies. They also unlike the priest have buffs, but they can only choose one or the other. Priest can heal and heal well where prophets are a little more versatile. They will be able to heal decently or buff their allies to have them maybe do more damage or last a little longer in battle. As a prophet you can sway the way of battle just by keeping your allies alive or causing your allies to be better. Hunter- Hunters have always and will always be part of any time era. Plus the archers for the Muslims were just called archers but they did not have longbows because the English had invented these weapon and Muslims did not have this technology yet. So in light of these facts the character has been called a hunter instead of archer. Hunters will be able train in the skills of bow, spear, sword, and Taming. Though these characters carry a bow these bows are not long bows and will not be able to shoot as far as archers but they have the ability to control beast. Training in Taming gives the hunter the ability to either tame a beast in the wild or call their trusty wolf to their side during combat. Combined these two can make for a menacing opponent. Not only do enemies have the hunter shooting, stabbing, or

slashing at them they have a wolf or random beast attacking other parts of them. An un-expecting player could fall victim to this very agile, very deadly opponent. For this game people who enjoy video games and who enjoy history should play. The players of this game will be able to learn how each of these callings played a role in the Crusades and what happened to start all of this. Also people who enjoy fantasy should enjoy this game.
