Teaching Vocabulary Plan @ BMS 7th Grade ELA

Monday/Day 1: 1. Introduce the word. 2. Have a PowerPoint presentation using each word: Put the word in a box. Each corner of the box indicates the synonym, antonym, nonlinguistic, and actual definition of the word. HW: Write the definition of the word and draw a picture related to it. Tuesday/Day2: 1. Check and discuss HW: Students share their HW with their classmates in pairs/groups. 2. Each pair/group discusses if the picture is a correct representation of the word. (Example: persuaded. Drawing: spider; I drew a spider because my brother persuaded me to do it) HW: Use each word in a meaningful sentence related to the theme of the month; use the word in context clues. Note: Work will be collected for a grade. Wednesday /Day 3: 1. Check and discuss HW: Students share their HW with their classmates in pairs/groups. 2. Each pair/group discusses if the word was used correctly in each sentence. 3. Work will be collected for a grade. HW: Use five (5) words in a paragraph related to the theme. Note: Work will be collected for a grade. Thursday/Day 4: 1. Check and discuss HW: Students share their HW with their classmates in pairs/groups. 2. Each pair/group discusses if the words are used correctly in the paragraph and if the paragraph is related to the theme. 3. Do Gallery Walk or Bingo Game 4. Work will be collected for a grade. HW: Complete study guide worksheet. Friday: 1. Check and discuss HW for at least 3 minutes. 2. Administer the test.
