Title of the Article: The Impressions of School Nurses and School Counselors Related to Health Disparities of Latina/o Students

in Rural Emerging Latino Communities. Author: Villalba, Jose, PhD Title of the Journal: Hispanic Health Care International, Volume 9, No1, 2011 Summary: This article focus attention to the rise of Latino communities in rural areas of North Carolina and the increase absence of social services that does communities receive in those areas. It presents an overall assessment of emerging Latinos, that area moving their families into more agronomic and farming areas to achieve economic stability. It put particular attention to the issues of Latinos students in North Carolina public school system sand their growing disparities with other racial and ethnic groups in mental, physical and social services. For the author (Professor Villalba) this article response to the lack of information on the mental and social health problems that affect Latinos youth, particular rural emerging Latinos areas of North Carolina. It examines and compares in a more general way, the overall stage of the Latinos living in urban vs. rural areas. Both groups are facing similar experiences of mental, social and physical illness that dont get attended by the mental and social experts and providers. The situation for this by range from a diverse perspective but commonly are link to immigration status, rural and urban poor areas, non or poor federal financial assistances or in some cases, a lack of information about personal, collective, social, physical emotional and mental health. The author declared that Latino community provide a strong economic backbone to North Carolina and that the Latino community is the fastest growing minorities in North Carolina, which represents 20% of students population at the elementary, middle, and high

school population. From that percent, the 15% are at risk for metal conditions, specifically depression. The system at North Carolina has not served, diversified, expanded or adapted correctly to the growth of the Latino community and in some cases lacks the educational and cultural-health elements needed to improve the health levels of the Latino community. The objective of this article is to share some light on the struggles that Latino communities and Latino students are encountering to access basic physical, mental, social and academic services. The study also addresses the need to minimize the disparities situation of Latino students in the North Carolina rural school system. As well, it give a voice to the rural Latino in North Carolina and provides a foundation for other studies of this kind and for health policy makers in North Carolina to examine the policy and health plans concerning the Latino community.
