Unfortunately, Robo has not replied to the Q&A that Vegaswingnut has sent, as of the time of publishing the newsletter. When Vegas receives the Q&A, I will post it in the thread and also update the newsletter. Remember, each months winning photo will be used on the NAGF 2010
calendar! We will post more information about purchasing a calendar as we get later in the year. Don't miss your chance to get your Goldwing on the NAGF 2010 Calendar!
As we begin the summer months and the glorious days of warm riding, we have to remember that the cagers and Mother Nature are out to play as well. In order to help keep us all safe and riding, here are a few reminders and tips for the summer.
-Summer means lots of holidays and summer cookouts. This often also includes drinking and the stupid drivers that have too much before getting behind the wheel or in the saddle. If you think cagers dont see you on regular days, just remember how bad their vision is when drunk. ALWAYS watch for them, since they wont watch for you. -Its always a good idea to be aware of where you are riding and what day it is. For example, if its Fourth of July and youre out at the lake, chances are the drunks will be too. Always be more careful around popular recreation spots, more people equals more accidents. -Summer also means that kids are out of school and playing in the street a lot more these days. Keep extra vigilant for them and all pedestrians. They dont always hear a quiet Wing coming. -This also goes for all those critters lurking on the shoulder who like to dart out in front of us. Animals and bugs are more active in summer, so watch out (and keep your mouth closed!).
-Summer warmth means great riding days but also heat exhaustion and sunburn. Think about packing those summer extras in your trunk, like sunscreen, a hat, and a bottle of water or two. -And riders dont forget about your passengers. Just because you may get a nice breeze up front doesnt mean your passenger couldnt use a break. Check on them once in a while; no one wants them sliding out of the saddle passed out. This is especially true when riding with the kids, since they may often not even know that they are getting overheated. - High temps and highway wind make dehydration a real concern. Make frequent stops to rehydrate, or consider a Camelbak (http://www.camelbak.com/index.cfm). These make it easy to drink while riding and are good for cooling you down if filled with cold water. -As the mercury climbs, your bike needs special attention too. Check the coolant level before every ride and watch the temp gauge more often in the summer. Riding is fun, but being stuck with an overheated bike isnt. -Tires also act differently in hot weather so check for proper inflation and remember that hot tar/asphalt can get really soft and mushy on the roads, especially in the South and West. -Warm days often bring afternoon showers, so keep an eye on the weather and bring rain gear, even for day trips. -Lastly, even though its hot and the wind feels good, dont forget, HELMETS,HELMETS,HELMETS
projector together to maybe show a movie Friday night (similar to what Rich had planned for the Beach Party last year.) Also, rumor has it, some of you, and you know who you are, like karaoke. That is also a possibility for Friday night also, if any of you are interested. For Friday night, we plan to pretty much just sit and get to know each other. Donna and I do have a route that we take, when we go for an hour and a half ride, that we could go on also, if anyone would be up to it.... it does pass a DQ It is a nice relaxed ride on a few, well maintained, back country roads. We have a small farmers resurant that we could have dinner at Friday night. I am working with my sister, who works there, to get a large area reserved for us. The food is good, and the prices are right. Everyone will be responsible for their own meals on Friday.
On Saturday June 27th, we can all head in town for breakfast and then we are planning to do a ride to Poopy's in Savanna Ill. This ride is approximately 1 1/2 hours from here. (about 60 miles) Im going to talk to one of you, about possibly being the leader, so Donna and I can be in the back of the pack for pictures and video. We are figuring about 4-5 hours total for the ride to Poopys and the return trip. When we return, we can do the auction. Also on Saturday, we will be putting together a late dinner for everyone around 7 ish. The menu would be potato salad, baked beans, hot dogs, ranch burgers, brats, and whatever else turns up. In lieu of hot dogs and burgers, we were considering doing pulled pork and pulled beef sandwiches....
but we will leave that to you all to decide. I have been asked by several members, whom are attending, if we will have any activites to do... yes we will. Again, I am planning to have the projector, if anyone wants to watch another movie.
On Sunday June 28th, we are going to have a buffet breakfast. For anyone who would be interested, a ride could be together to go to J&P Cycles in Anamosa Ia. (about 1 hour or so from here) For those that wouldn't be interested in another ride, we will have other things to do for you, until the others return. . The rest of the day can be R&R and saying goodbyes. This will give you an idea, of the buffet at the Farmer's Table Restaurant, that we will be eating at on Friday night, and Saturday morning.... The Farmers Restaurant does have a buffet or you can order off the menu.
