Important Points that must be given ATTENTION in CV/Resume

Resume: A brief summary of education, work experience, skills, and accomplishments. CV: Story of ones life and is more detailed than a Resume. It includes more detailed education history, work experience, research papers, trainings, job descriptions, etc. Chronological CV: Performance based, more emphasis on work experience Functional CV: Emphasis on skills, education etc. (For Fresh Graduates)

Why CVs are rejected? Poor Presentation (fonts etc., poor paper etc.) Too long/too short Date Irregularities Lack of achievements Lack of skills Weak career objectives (vision, ambition)

What things are liked in CVs? Relevant Education Precise and to the point Strong and clear objective Achievements Hobbies/Interests Good presentation

Other important points No need to put your photo. For a fresh Graduate: your Objective must show that you are a seeker of a Trainee position in your interested field for a multinational company where you can get opportunities to polish/establish your professional skills and also you need a long term career opportunity. Mention your areas of interest after Objective in Bullets format. Skills must be mentioned like Leadership, Communication (verbal/non-verbal), TeamPlayer, Presentation Skills, Interpersonal, Initiative, Analytical, Decision Making, Problem Solving Skills, etc. It is better to mention skills with one example and always use active verbs e.g. prepared and delivered a presentation up to _______ number of audiences etc. Some frequently used active verbs are: lead, motivated, prepared, managed, implemented, initiated etc. Education history must be started from Last acquired Degree. List your software skills with names and also mention when you used them. Entry Level resume must not be more than one page.

Present the Resume very clearly; use white page, black ink, 100 grams paper, and laser printer. Style of font Times New Roman or Arial or Calibri. Size of font 14-16 for headings and 11-12 for body. Highlight key skills. Stress Achievements. Use Bullets like or No need to mention your NIC No. when applying in Multi-national companies unless asked to do so. Personal Profile may be written at the end. Mention your email id, contact number, and Skype id. Make a meaningful email address like engr.____@___.com etc. Some companies ask to write Date of Birth so write it as DOB:_____ Mention your Final Year Project Separately. Just mention name and no need to write the summary in Resume but be prepared it may be asked in your interview. Include at the end that References shall be made available on request. Always be prepared that what you write in CV may be asked in detail. Most of the students do grammatical & spelling mistakes in preparing Resume that put very negative impact on the reader. So check these errors too and press F7 for Spell Check at the end. Consult Dictionary if required. At the end proof read your Resume and pay proper attention to spelling mistakes in software names.

NOTE: Give proper time in CV writing and dont show carelessness.

Wish you very Good Luck in your Job hunt!
