rahas in the horoscope give their benefic, malefic and Rajayoga results on their lordships and strength.
Sometimes it is seen that a benefic Graha in good strength and also being Rajayogakaraka fails to give beneficial results. It gives malefic instead of benefic results and even death. The reason for such is not visible but if examined in sufficient detail then the reason is clearly visible. Some sensitive points are responsible for such behavior. These sensitive points are not visible Grahas or bodies but are arithmetical points and change the results heavily by their presence. A Graha which appears very beneficial and Rajayogakaraka may prove destructive by being positioned on such points. One of such sensitive points is Mrityubhag. Mrityu means destruction of natural capacity of the body of a being. A Graha loses its capacity to give results when it is close to Mrityubhag in the same manner as anyones body is destroyed when close to death. Grahas get Mrityu
status when they are on the sensitive point called Mrityubhag. Certain specific degrees of the 30 degrees of each Rashi are called Mrityubhag of the Rashi.
Mrityubhag Degrees
here are variations in the Mrityubhag of the Moon in different texts. Mrityubhag portions mentioned in some prominent texts are as follows:
1 4 23 18 20 15 10
11 26 14 13 25 5 12
1 4 23 18 20 21 10
Sarvarth Chintamani chapter 10 shloka 47-51 Khemraj Shrikrishnadas Phaladeepika chapter 13 Gopeshkumar Ojha Saravali chapter 11 commented by Muralidhar Chaturvedi Jatakabharnam Arishtadhyaya 15 shloka 51 Khemraj Krishnadas, Bombay considers the degrees mentioned in Saravali as Mrityu degrees.
Editors notes: The English translation of Phaladeepika by V.Subramaniya Sastri has the sloka numbers as 10 and 11. What is given in the table above under Phaladeepika are the contents of sloka 10. Under sloka 11 Sastri has explained like this: The following are (also) respectively deemed (by some others) as (Mrityubhagas or fateful degrees) in the several signs from Mesha (Aries) onwards. 8, 9, 22, 22, 25, 14, 4, 23, 18, 20, 21 and 10. Sarvartha Chinthamani gives the Mrityu Bhaga of Moon from Aries onwards as 8, 25, 22, 22, 21, 1, 4, 23, 18, 20, 20 and 10. This is the same in Jataka Parijatam also. Majority of texts mention the Mrityubhag of only the Moon but Late Shri Gopeshkumar Ojha has included a table of Mrityubhag of all Grahas in Jataka Parijat. As per Jatak Parijat translated by Gopeshkumar Ojha page 75 Rashisheeladhyaya the table of Mrityubhag of all Grahas is as follows: GrahaRashi Su Mo Ma Me Ju Ve Ar 20 26 19 15 19 28 Ta 09 12 28 04 29 15 Ge 12 13 25 13 21 14 Cn 06 25 23 12 27 17 Le 08 24 29 08 06 19 Vi 24 11 28 18 04 13 Li 16 26 14 20 13 04 Sc 17 14 21 10 10 06 Sg 22 13 02 21 17 27 Cp 02 25 15 22 11 12 Aq 03 05 11 07 15 29 Pi 23 05 06 05 28 19

(Note:- Above table is as per Jatak Parijat by Gopeshkumar Ojha, page 75 Rashisheeladhyaya, Motilal Banarasidas edition) In chapter 3 of Uttarkalamrita the translator Dr Sureshchandra Mishra has also mentioned the above degrees for Lagna and Moon as Mrityubhag. In chapter 13 of Phaladeepika Gopeshkumar Ojha has mentioned the Mrityubhag of Lagna at variance with that mentioned in Jataka Parijat. Mrityubhag degrees of Lagna in Phaladeepika are as follows:
Rashi Ar Ta Ge Cn Le Vi Li Sc Sg Cp Aq Pi Mrityu degrees of Lagna 8 9 22 22 25 14 4 23 18 20 21 10
According to Phaladeepika chapter 13 commented by Gopeshkumar Ojha it is believed that the presence of Moon on Mrityubhag results in early death of the native. Similarly, chapter 10 of Sarvarth Chintamani mentions that the Moon on Mrityubhag gives death. The Moon in Mrityubhag in a Rashi results in death in the same number of years as are the degrees of Mrityubhag without a doubt. I have, however, not seen this in studies of horoscopes. It is possible after reaching the end of life either as per the horoscope or in the period of Markesh. After studying many horoscopes in the guidance of my Guru Respected Shri Shakti Mohan Singh1 it is noticed that all Graha in Mrityubhag definitely show malefic effect. In a Rashi, any Graha close to Mrityubhag is incapable of giving its benefic or malefic results. Such a Graha helps to increase and strengthen the malefic effects of the House in a horoscope. Results of a Graha positioned on Mrityubhag are affected in three ways.
1) Obstructions are created in the benefic results of the house owned by the Graha 2) Obstructions may be created in the results of the natural significations of the Graha.
1 Saptarishis Astrology had published an article by Shakti Mohan Singh ji, who has also written a path breaking book on Kala Chakra Dasa -
SA
If a Graha positioned in Mrityubhag is also on Amritghati or Pushkar Navansh then some reduction is seen in its unfavourable effects, else the possibility of unfavourable results is increased. In addition, if any Graha or Lagna is in Vishaghati alongwith being on Mrityubhag then it will definitely be harmful.

This woman born in Cancer Lagna has seventh house Lord Sa with exalted Me along with ninth house Lord Ju but is in Mrityubhag. The woman was married on 21 January 2004 and immediately thereafter her married life was quarrelsome. Her husband was also sometimes physically abusive. The situation reverted to the same situation many times even after counseling. Divorce proceedings are in progress at present. The seventh house Lord Sa in Mrityubhag destroyed marital happiness. The above examples seem to indicate that Mrityubhag plays important role in predictive astrology. Due to variations of Moon and Lagna Mrityubhag in classical texts it will be hasty to conclude on correctness of a particular Mrityubhag degree. My research continues with my associates on various Mrityubhag degrees. I appeal to the learned readers to share their experiences. I have written the above treatise with reference to the Mrityubhag table available in Jatak Parijat commentary by Shri Gopeshkumar Ojha.
