AP WORLD HISTORY SUMMER READING ASSIGNEMENT

All students registered for AP World History are required to do a summer reading project, which is due the 3rd day of class. The Summer reading assignment for AP World History is Chapters one through four of the text (McKay. 2004. A History of World Societies). This text will be checked out to you when you receive this assignment. If you end up needing a text or you have any questions, contact Ms. McNair at abbey.mcnair@ops.org . AP World History covers history from ancient civilizations to the present. This is a tremendous amount of information and material and requires us to move at a rapid pace in order to accomplish this in one year. This summer reading project allows us to get a head start on the material. For each chapter there is a study guide that should be completed as you read. The Flowchart Questions and Vocabulary on the summer study guides will be the basis of the exam that will be given on the third day of school. You are expected to read these four chapters, answer the attached flowchart questions and identify the people and terms. You should come to class on the first day of school prepared to answer questions over the material and should be ready to take an exam over the material on the Third day of the 2010-2011 school year. Questions for this exam will only come from the study guide questions, terms, and people. Those students who carefully READ these pages, complete the study guides, and study should not have any difficulty on this exam. Please remember that this is not an honors level class, but rather an Advanced Placement class. This is a college level class and college level effort is expected of each person who has signed up to take this class. Coming to school unprepared on the first day of school would be a clear indication that you are not ready for this commitment. I look forward to working with you this next school year and hope you arrive prepared and ready to explore World History. STUDY GUIDE DIRECTIONS: For each Chapter answer the flowchart questions, chapter questions (see example of a flowcharted answer at the end of this packet) and then individually identify the people and terms. All vocabulary and chapter questions should be typed and collected in a 3-ring binder (recommended 2-3 inch binder that will be used the rest of the year as your AP WORLD NOTEBOOK) and will be turned in at the time of the first exam.
