Background Shree Shankar Narayan Education Trust's Shankar Narayan College of Arts and Commerce, Bhayandar (E) is one of the most significant institutions imparting higher education in the vicinities of Mira-Bhayandar area. Besides, schools, colleges and universities are using computers for various utilities viz. pay rolls, time-tables etc. In fact the Department of education has made it mandatory for institutes affiliated to the University to submit all pre and post examination related data online. Thus there is a growing dependancy on the Internet and this has led to an urgent need for Gateway Level Security.

S N. College was well equipped to meet the growing need for digitization. However, monitoring the Internet usage was a concern. The bandwidth was being used up in visiting social-networking sites, downloading heavy videos and music files and other restricted sites. This made the network susceptible to virus attacks and slowed down the processing speed of the computers to an extent that productivity got adversely affected. S N College did not have any robust firewall solution and hence they were unable to protect their network from virus attacks and did not have uniform management, control and performance monitoring for web surfing. The Effective Solution offered After deliberate and extensive discussion with the technical staff of S N College and a detailed study/analysis of the existing system, Nevales suggested and executed the installation of a customized UTM system, fit to cater to the objectives outlined by the client and more. After implementation, Nevales Firewall manages all communication traffic between the Internet and internal networks, controlling incoming and outgoing network traffic based on the IT security policy, simultaneously blocking unauthorized access. We have implemented the content filtering feature that provides comprehensive web blocking of unwanted sites. This was done by creating user groups and giving them user access according to the privileges defined by the IT security policy of the college. Now any misuse of the bandwidth for illegal downloads and file sharing have been restricted by Nevales Surf Protection. Apart from blocking access to unwanted sites, the Nevales Gateway Level Anti-virus, Spyware Protection and Anti-spam features were activated to ensure real-time protection from any malicious content.
