Trainers and Starting Equipment: A Trainer begins play with a starter Pokemon from the area where they are from. A Trainer also begins play with an empty Pokball, 1 Potion, a Pokedex and 2d4 x 1000 Pokedollars.

Class Features: Control Pokmon: A Trainer can only control 1 creature starting at 1st level. All other creatures that are captured by a Pokeball are immediately transferred to a storage computer. A Trainer cannot control a Pokmon whose Control Rating is equal to or greater than the Trainer's control rating. An uncontrolled Pokmon will act as it sees fit, possibly going on a rampage, running away, or simply sleeping until it is returned to its Pokball. Furthermore, Dragon Pokmon are harder to control than other Pokmon, and use twice their Challenge Rating (or their own Challenge Rating+ 4, whichever is less) to determine whether they will obey their Trainer. At 3rd level a Trainer can control up to 3 creatures, and finally 6 creatures at 5th level. Control Rating (Ex): The Trainer's Control rating is always equal to his levels in trainer plus his level in any PokeMaster class he has. Some PokeMaster classes advance the trainer's control rating faster then normal. Train Pokmon (Ex): A Trainer can Train or Evolve their Pokmon with their Handle pokemon skill. Training a Pokmon takes 8 hours and has a DC of 15 + the Pokmon's Control Rating. If the training would alter the Pokmon's Control Rating - use the new Control Rating. The effects available from Training Pokmon are based on the number of Ranks in Handle Pokemon the Trainer has: 3 ranks Learn Trick: This is just like teaching to an animal companion (see DMG page 46). Note that some Pokmon are intelligent enough so that they are able to perform tricks without being specifically taught and all Pokmon are able to learn at least 4 tricks even if their intelligence would not normally be high enough. 6 ranks Grow Pokmon: This causes the Pokmon to advance 1 Hit Die, if it would not cause the Pokmon to exceed its advancement limit. This may cause the creature to grow in size category, see the monster description. This may also cause the Pokmon to become uncontrolled, if this raises its CR to past the maximum CR the Trainer can control. You select what skills, if any, a Pokmon gains for its level, and if this advancement would cause a Pokmon to gain a feat you may select the feat. 8 ranks Evolve Pokmon: This causes the Pokmon to evolve to a more advanced form. Note that this may cause the Pokmon to become uncontrolled if this raises the CR to past the maximum CR the Trainer can control. Pokmon who become Dragons in this way are not harder to control than natural dragons are. 12 ranks Inspire Pokmon: You may be an especially kind or cruel master to your Pokmon, giving it a permanent +2 Sacred or Profane bonus to any statistic. You may only give this bonus once to each Pokmon, and you cannot give different bonuses (Sacred or Profane) to different Pokmon. In addition, the trainer can inspire courage in his Pokemon. Inspiring his Pokemon takes a full round. Only the Trainer's Pokemon within 30ft of the trainer gains the bonus, and they must be able to hear him. The Pokemon gain +3 bonus to saving throws against charm and fear, and a +1 to attack and weapon damage rolls. The Pokemon are inspired for as long as the trainer speaks to them. These bonuses are either Sacred or Profane, whatever the Trainer chose before.

PokeEmpathy (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, the Trainer can improve the attitude of a Pokemon. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. The Trainer rolls 1d20 and adds herControl Rating and her Charisma modifier to determine the PokeEmpathy check result. The typical domestic pokemon has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild pokemon are usually unfriendly. To use PokeEmpathy, the Trainer and the Pokemon must be able to study each other, which means that they must be within 30 feet of one another under normal conditions. Generally, influencing a Pokemon in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. Nature shift (Ex): At 4th level, by enforcing good or bad behavior, a Trainer can make her Pokmon gradually see things her way - a Pokmon's nature shifts one degree towards the Trainer's each week if she can succeed in an PokeEmpathy check at a DC of (10 + the Pokmon's CR). The Dungeon Master decides whether it moves Law/Chaos or Good/Evil first depending upon circumstances. For each Nature axis that did not need to change, the Pokemon gains an additional +1 to the bonuses granted by Inspire Pokemon. Double Team (Ex): Upon reaching 5th level, the Trainer is able to control two Pokmon out of their balls simultaneously, even in battle. This ability only functions so long as both Pokmon CR's added together are less than the Trainer's control rating. For example, a 5th level Trainer could command a single Challenge Rating 4 Pokmon in battle or two Challenge Rating 2 Pokmon.
