LIFE CYCLE OF BUTTERFLY

FIRST STAGE: EGG

Imagine you are an egg. How will you show your appearance? How the females lay their eggs?

The egg is the first stage in the butterfly life cycle. Butterfly egg is very small and round, oval or cylindrical Females lay their eggs on, near or undersides of leaves

SECOND STAGE: LARVA (CATERPILLAR)

Imagine you are a larva (caterpillar). How will you show your characteristics?

The larva hatches from the eggs. Butterfly larva is usually called caterpillar. The caterpillar is so small that can barely be seen. It grows very fast and spends most of their time eating the leaves. A caterpillars exoskeleton cant stretch or grow, so the caterpillar sheds its skin several time as is grows.

THIRD STAGE (PUPA)

Imagine you are a larva (caterpillar). How will you show your movements within reaching the pupa stage?

When the caterpillar has finished growing, it crawls until it finds a safe place to pupate. The caterpillar makes a silk-like mat and then attaches its last pair of legs to the mat. The caterpillar allows itself to drop and then hangs there, upside down in a J shape. The caterpillar spin cocoon and from pupa inside them. Form the outside, the pupa looks as if it is resting but inside, every part of the caterpillar is changing.

FOURTH STAGE (ADULT BUTTERFLY)

When the pupa has finished changing. It molts one last time and emerges as an adult butterfly. The adult butterfly emerges with its wings folded up, crumpled, wet and tiny and a strawlike tongue used for sipping nectar from flower. The butterfly pumps blood into the wings to expand them and ready for flying. This beautiful adult butterfly will soon mate, lay eggs and repeat their lifecycle over and over again.
