Lesson Timeline and Instructional Strategies & Learning Tasks Amount Teaching & Learning Activities Describe what YOU (teacher) will be doing and/or what STUDENTS will of Time be doing during this part of the lesson. 20 min Orientation/Engagement/Motivation: 15 minute math stations. Remind students of the raft game and how they traded beans for planks and planks for rafts. Inform students they are going to play a game similar to this. Review how ten single straws=1 group of ten. Introduce how ten groups of ten straws = 100. (Show this using the paper charts). Explain they will be using these to play the Ones, Tens, Hundreds game. Tell students they will be playing with their math partners. Demonstrate the game to the students. Explain players take turns ruling the number cube and picking up the appropriate groups. Players will take turns rolling the number cube and picking up the appropriate number of squares/groups of tens or hundred chart. When they have 10 singles, they exchange this for one group of 10. Then when they get 10 strips of ten they switch for a hundreds chart. The first player to get a hundreds chart wins the game. At the end of each game, both players record the total of their worksheet. Students will play the game. Once students have completed the game two times they will then go back to their desks and complete addition worksheet. Review how game went for students. Did they enjoy it? Difficulty level for children?
