Analysis: 1. Explain what the data means. Compare and contrast the results for a nonsmoker and smoker. 2. How does eating breakfast and not eating breakfast affect the results? Why does this happen? Explain for both the non-smoker and smoker. Remember that they both ate 2 cups of Quaker oatmeal and a banana. 3. How do the results for the non-smoker and smoker relate to your conclusions from the respiration lab? (Hint: think about what you measured in that lab- respiration rate, tidal volume, inspiratory reserve volume, etc.) 4. Use the following equation to calculate maximum heart rate: Female max heart rate = 209 - (0.7*age) Male max heart rate = 214 - (0.8*age) The non-smoker is 25 years old and the smoker is 19 years old. What does this value mean? 5. Did the smoker or non-smoker reach their max heart rate value? 6. Calculate the amount of calories per minute for both the non-smoker and smoker both with and without breakfast. You should have 4 values. 7. What is cellular respiration? Do your best to explain. 9. How does the cardiovascular and respiratory system work together to deliver food and oxygen to muscle cells? Smokers have reduced blood circulation due to narrowing of the blood vessels, damaged airways, and less oxygen intake so they do not generate as much energy as a healthy individual.
