Winnetka Youth Organization Youth Worker JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Youth Worker, Part-time hourly (16-24 hours/week) Reports to: Program Director Compensation: $12/hour Shifts: Winnetka Youth Organization summer hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11am-7pm; and Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 2pm-10pm. Center is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Youth Worker summer shifts are weekly Thursdays and Saturdays from 2pm10pm, and occasional Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday shifts as needed. Winnetka Youth Organization school year hours of operation are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3pm-7pm; and Fridays and Saturdays from 2-10pm. Center is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Youth Worker school year hours include weekly shifts from 3pm-7pm during the week and Saturdays from 2pm-10pm. Flexibility to attend weekday, weekend and/or evening special events as designated. Greater shift flexibility available during the school year. Youth Worker is an ideal position for college and graduate students seeking to work in the field of human services. Start Date: Week of May 14, 2012 Responsibilities: 1. Supervise drop-in center and teens during evening shifts; 2. Work with the Program Director to advertise recreational, social service and diversity programs for the teen center online and in person; 3. Canvas area schools and businesses to promote awareness of programs; 4. Assist with marketing, fundraising, and community-based projects; 5. Be a supportive mentor and provide problem-solving counseling techniques and referral information to teens as necessary; 6. Aid the Program Director in planning, implementation, and supervision of WYO sponsored activities; 7. Maintain the WYO drop-in center cleanliness and lock up after shift; 8. Participate in staff meetings towards a team environment; 9. Maintain daily statistics regarding the youth using the program, as well as the activities sponsored by the WYO. Will keep other staff informed of happenings during shift; 10. Take initiative with on-going projects, new activities, and tasks at the center. Qualifications: 1. Must be at least 21 years of age. 2. Must pass appropriate criminal background check and comply with Illinois Mandated Report laws. 3. BA in social work, sociology, psychology or related field desired. Will consider other candidate with three years of experience or more. 4. Prior experience working directly with adolescents is helpful.

5. A genuine love of teens and a belief in their potential. 6. A creative, energetic, self-starter who can lead programs and create new avenues of fun and inspiration for our youth.
