What is the student affiliate (SA)? Why should I join?


Professional community for students interested in English Education Student-led university group affiliated with our national organization, NCTE Place for conversations among students from Secondary Education English and Middle- level Education at various stages of the program (from early to student-teaching) Place for conversations with local teachers and administrators about issues related to English Language Arts teaching Opportunities to work with local secondary students Opportunities to present at local and national conferences Join NCTE using student application form (dues = $25) Elect student officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer o Represent the SA at the annual NCTE conference and local PCTELA conference Meet regularly (once a month) Identify issues related to English Language Arts; devote a meeting to each issue Invite local experts (teachers, administrators, faculty) to join the conversation on each issue Provide an annual report on its activities to NCTE

What can the SA do?


Invite local teachers, administrators, and faculty to join conversations on issues like the job search, classroom management, reading strategies, technology in the English classroom, etc. Design and implement a workshop at the Fall 2012 High School Diversity Conference Submit proposals and give presentations at the Spring 2013 BU Literacy Conference
