Major items of Indias exports to Singapore include: Mineral fuels & mineral oils, Organic chemicals, Natural or cultured pearls, Metals (like, iron & steel, copper, nickel, aluminium, Nuclear reactors & boilers, Electrical machi & equip, Vehicles parts thereof, Aircraft, spacecraft, and parts thereof, Ships, boats and floating structures, Optical & photographic eq & medical or surgical inst., amongst others. Over the period the main items of Export from 2008-09 to 2009-10 is almost the same. On analysing the figures from 2008-09 to 2009-10, it is clear that the Exports have declined in 2009-10. Thus, it becomes even more necessary to take serious steps from the Indian side to enhance the Exports.

Major items of Indias imports from Singapore include Mineral Fuels, Mineral Oils And Products; Organic chemicals; Plastic and articles thereof; Natural or cultured pearls &precious or semiprecious stones; Iron and steel; Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof; Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; Aircraft, spacecraft, and parts thereof; Ships, boats and floating structures; Optical, photographic inst, medical or surgical inst., etc. Over the period the main items of Import from 2008-09 to 2009-10 is almost the same. On analysing the figures from 2008-09 to 2009-10, it is clear that our Imports have increased in 2009-10.

From the Annexure 1: India- ASEAN Exports Data, it is clear that among the ASEAN Countries, Indias maximum Exports are to Singapore. In 2009, this figure was, US $ 1,528.67 Million, and increased to US $ 1,870.47 Million in 2010, although the % growth in our exports is only 22.36%.

Taking a look at the Annexure 2: India and ASEAN Countries Import Data, we can see that among the ASEAN countries, Singapore stands 2nd in terms of Imports from India. Just like exports our imports have also been rising. Cumulative FDI inflows during 1991-2009 was US$ 125.9 billion, including amount on account of acquisition of existing shares (upto 1999), RBIs- NRI Schemes, stock swapped & advance pending for issue of shares. Share of Singapore with FDI inflows: Singapore ranks 3rd in terms of o Total FDI Inflows, which is US$ 9.7 billion. The Percentage share with total FDI inflows is 8.42%. Sectors attracted FDI inflows for Singapore: o Top sectors attracting FDI inflows (from April 2000 to November 2009) are: Services Sector (34%) Petroleum & Natural Gas (13%) Computer Software & Hardware (10%) Telecommunications (7%) & Mining (4%) Technical collaborations: o Since 1991, total technical collaborations are 8,080 Nos. o Of these, Singapore has been granted 125 technical collaborations. o Share of Singapore with total is 1.55%. o Top five sectors attracting technology transfer from Singapore are: Hotel & Tourism (23 nos.) Electrical equipment (including software & electronics (22 nos.) Food Processing Industries (13 nos.) Chemicals (other than fertilizers (10 nos.) & Misc. mechanical & engineering (09 nos.).
