Novel Plan
VOCABULARY LOG :: Each week, you will turn in a list of vocabulary words from your reading. Try to
choose words you are not familiar with, so it will be a true learning experience. Each word should be accompanied by: a. its page number in the novel, b. the entire sentence the word is a part of, c. its part of speech, d. its definition, and e. an original sentence using the word correctly.

READING LOG :: While you are reading, take notes. Include page numbers for every item. Use the Cornell
Notes systemthe right column should be for notes, and the left column should be for type of information: PLOT, CHARACTER, SETTING, THEME, CONFLICT, etc. Be sure to write down any vivid, precise quotations that you find, especially about the characters.

QUIZZES :: Every week, you will take a reading quiz on the selected chapters. Expect to find questions
related to the plot, characters, settings, conflicts, and themes, as well as vocabulary used in the book. All vocabulary questions will be context-based. You will be able to use your READING LOG and VOCABULARY on the quizzes.

UNIT TEST :: At the end of your reading, you will take a test on the novel. You will receive a study guide for
the test well in advance.
