Coloured stucco for finish coat shall be a mill-mixed product using white portland cement. Colour shall be sunproof, limeproof, and unfading. Colouredstucco finish coat shall be prepared for application by mixing with water only. Hydrated lime shall conform to ASTM C 141, Hydraulic Hydrated Lime for Structural Purposes, with the further requirement that the total free unhydrated calcium oxide and magnesium oxide shall not exceed 8 percent by weight, calculated on an "as-received" basis. Pulverized quicklime shall conform to ASTM C 5, Quicklime for Structural Purposes. Pulverized quicklime shall be used except when lump quicklime, slaked on the job, is specifically approved. Pulverized quicklime shall pass through a No. 20 sieve, and at least 90 percent shall pass through a No. 50 sieve. Only one brand shall be used throughout the work. After slaking to a putty, the pulverized quicklime shall have a plasticity figure of no less than 200 when tested in accordance with ASTM C 110, Physical Testing of Quicklime and Hydrated Lime and Limestone. At the end of 72 hours, the total free unhydrated calcium oxide and magnesium oxide in the hydrated product shall not exceed 8 percent by weight, calculated on the basis of the lime solids in the putty. Lime putty shall be made from hydrated lime except that quicklime may be used when adequate time and facilities are available for aging. Suitable precautions shall be taken to protect the putty from exposure to the sun and to prevent excessive evaporation when stored. Lime putty prepared from quicklime shall be allowed to cool completely before using. Hydrated lime shall be mixed with water to form a putty and shall be allowed to stand until it reaches its maximum plasticity before using. Quicklime shall be slaked in suitably large batches with enough water to form a thick cream. Precautions shall be taken to maintain the heat and prevent premature cooling during the process of hydration. The slaked quicklime shall be passed through a No. 10 sieve. Pulverized quicklime putty shall be stored for at least 72 hours before using. When the use of lump quicklime, slaked on the job, is specifically approved for stucco in lieu of pulverized quicklime, the cooling and aging period shall be not less than 14 days.
