IIAR Ammonia Refrigeration Education And Training Program -- Module 2 -- Ammonia Refrigeration Systems This was from my roommate when I was at Colorado State University in 1989. He aquired these books in 1998, and photocopied them as well as scanned them into a PDF file for me. I was interested in HVAC then and now, especially enviromentlly friendly HVAC that uses naturally occuring chemicals that can be found in the environment naturally (which I believe is usually "GREEN").

Refrigeration Systems
Lesson 1
In Module 1, we began the examination ofthe heat transfer process. In this
‘module, we look at the heat transfer process more closely. In addition, this module
examines the four steps of refrigeration:
1) expansion
2 ee
3) compression
4) condensation
This module will also explore ewo types ofrefiigeration systems
1) the direct expansion system
2) the indirect system,
In many ways, a refrigeration system is very similar to a subway system. A subway
twain travels chrough a cunnel, picking up passengers along the way. Ar the end of
the line, passengers get off the train. The tain repeats the trip over and over again,
“WW picking up new passengers and discharging them at the end of the line.
In an ammonia refrigeration system, the piping system is similar to a subway
tunnel. The ammonia functions ina similar manner to the subway
ammonia travels through the pipes
