WORLD WIDE WEB

OF
21st century is indeed a breakthrough in history! This was the future thought by the people living on the past. Countless writings and famous movies had speculated about what life would be when 2012 arrived. So, how did turn out? Are we living in the future we always imagined? On January 12, 2012, more than 230,000 people were killed when a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. One March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0, followed by a tsunami, claimed 15,848 lives, injured 9,011 and left 3,305 people missing. And on December 2011, a deadly cyclone Bagyong Sendong claimed innocent lives in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. Now, is this the future that we always dreamed of? Think again. Indeed, we met our imagination telecommunication, internet access, computerization and automation, industrialization and modernization. But, as we go beyond what we have imagined, all else falls out our environment runs short. As David Ehrenfeld once said Humanity is on the march, earth itself is left behind. In todays capitalist society, the beautiful bluegreen marble of mankind had been strained. We are now confronted with both a promise of an easier life and a threat to end life. With our man-made creation comes environmental degradation. For our every action, there is a reaction. That explains the environmental calamities we have experienced and will continue to experience onwards, unless we do something. With the environmental problems we are encountering now, we should wake up! Let us go back to the basics to the concept of life. What is life? For years, science had conceptualized life through the study of DNA, proteins, and other molecular structures that are building blocks of living organisms. We are taught of the difference between a rock, a plant or a microorganism. But, knowing those concepts are not enough for us to fathom the nature of life. We must realize that life on Earth is interconnected; that life, from its beginning, did not take over the planet by combat but by networking.

LIFE

Earth with its entire complex, interlocking ecosystems, is the foundation of our lives. It is our common heritage. The bounty of nature is one and indivisible. It knows no frontiers, no territorial boarders. It does not recognize any North-South divide or EastWest distinction. As in a family, every element in nature, however small, is part of a whole and contributes to the harmony of the whole and to its delicate overall balance. Every animal and plant species known or unknown has its place, role and function, deserving of protection just as a family protects all its members. Thus, says Klaus Toepfer, UNEP Executive Director during the World Environment Day 2001. Indeed, we are one with nature. We should stay connected with the earth by any means. We need to make the connection, in whatever way we can, between ourselves and all life on earth. We are in the information age. We are to use the information we have to save earth. Once we save earth, we sustain life. The earth and everything on it is our family. We are connected by that common bond. In the coming decades, the survival of humanity will depend on our ecological literacy our ability to understand the basic principles of ecology and to live accordingly. So ISIDRANS, now is the time that we connect ourselves with the World Wide Web of Life.

TAKE A LOOK AT CLEANLINESS
Gloria C. Lantaya

Go to foreign countries, you will never see any trash or unnecessary markings in any corner, go to the Philippines, its like trash cans everywhere! I feel sad that our country is having impressions like this. I wonder no matter how simple the rules are it seems very difficult to follow for some people. Looking through the school scenario for instance, we are always reminded to put our garbage in the trash cans. Still, many students are throwing their garbage anywhere. I wonder what the reason is. Is it because the instruction is difficult to understand or it is just part of ones nature of being a sloven? It has been said that how we deal with things around us reflects the kind of personality we have. Perhaps it is safe to say that some Filipinos lack discipline. Another very common issue is vandalism inside and outside the school campus. Personally, I do not understand why some people who do so. We all know that it is part of school rules and regulations that vandalism is prohibited. However, the semester will never end without our chairs and walls being vandalized. What is the purpose of doing so anyway? I think it is just so petty for someone belonging in a college department to be doing this. According to the studies of Psychology, most Psychologists would say that vandalism is the expression of people to cover their insecurities. Through it, they can presume to conquer the world without being caught. They never realized how much problems they give to the environment. Why are vandals prohibited? Vandals are not pleasant to look at. Vandals everywhere like on chairs and walls could surely create a bad impression to anyone. Yes, we have the right to self-expression, but it is not absolute. There is always a limitation. Moreover, vandalism is just an unlawful act. Therefore, it is not acceptable. Garbage on the other hand is definitely a huge problem. This garbage, if not disposed properly, can cause clogging in our drainage system. This can also be home for disease-carrying bacteria that can surely affect our physical health. I hope we all take part in protecting our environment. As an Isidran, be responsible. You might not be remembered by doing so, but you will let others know how important it is to value our environment. We are living in the same planet. What happens to you can also happen to me. So let us promote cleanliness, follow rules and regulations, by that you honor your country by being a good citizen.

The Philippine Association of Educators on Office Administration Foundation Inc. (PAEOAFI) and the Philippine Association of Students in Office Administration (PASOA) Bukidnon Chapter united together for the 1st PASOA Congress on February 16, 2012 at Mountain View College, Valencia City. The congress was themed Moving towards Excellent Office Administration Environs. The participating schools were Central Mindanao University, San Agustin Institute of Technology, Philippine Computer College, Mountain View College, and San Isidro College. Upon arriving at the venue, the participating students had their registration. By 9 oclock in the morning, the session began with the Words of Welcome by Prof. Julie Meriam D. Rizardo-National Vice-President of the PAEOAFI Mindanao Chapter. Teresita F. Pepito, Ph.D, the President of the PAEOAFI-Bukidnon Chapter, gave the rationale of the said congress. She said that the competition is not a fight for championship but must be a fight for camaraderie and unity. This would give the BSOA Students a chance to shine and make a difference. After which, our very own Edper Louie Garcia and Nikkilyn Piel gave a lyrical hip-hop intermission number and it was followed by the recognition of the participating schools by Prof. Puresa S. Sajulga-Secretariat Chair. PASOA-Bukidnon invited Dr. Daniel D. Dial, Ed.D. Mountain View College President as the speaker about Industry Requirement for Global Competitiveness. He inspired the participants to do well in their studies in order to become globally competitive and efficient secretaries. After Dr. Dials talk, the topic on Meeting the Industry Requirements through Technical Skills Appraisal was given by Prof. Eldy Gwen C. Sunico. What was notable in his talk was his notion about the participants as Digital Native due to the total exposure of todays youth to the complex world of technology which made life easy and comfortable. Amidst all of these, humans and technology must go hand in hand as what Albert Einstein once said, Computers are incredibly fats, accurate and stupid. Human beings are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant.

ISIDRAN CHRISTMAS PARTY AND RECOGNITION OF HONORS

and Fr. Delfin were out for a sick leave in which the one and only Dr. Emie D. Gualdaquever made the message in behalf of the president. The Bangga sa Daygon champion then shows off their wonderful singing talents as they choir their way through the stage by singing a Christmas song. They had a lot of gimiks in their presentation that contains the real essence of what the theme is emphasizing, which made them the champion. Dinner time was almost at hand and everyone went to their very own classrooms to eat while others went outside the school to have their dinner at their boarding house or carenderias. After everyone had their dinner, the Youtube Sensation winners were declared and played the very music video which won them first prize. Games and gift giving facilitated by Richard Baloria and company took place which made the night overwhelmed with boisterous laughter and excitement with each game. And the moment for disco time came, and everyone was very eager to party till midnight. But the disco was cut short when a short circuit in one of the disco lights blew the mood of the students. A minute or so later passed and everyone was back on the dance floor to jiggle and boogie their way throughout the crowd. Cameras flashing everywhere as everyone wants this night to be remembered with all the photo memories together with their barkadas, classmates, and friends. As the hour strikes midnight, everyone knows that the party is over and they have to spend the last few minutes to dance with who they ever want to dance with. As time passes by, the program ended. Slowly one by one, by pair or by group, the students went out with by unfathomable smiles and unforgettable memory of this Christmas event.

December 16, 2011 Pasko: Liwanag ng Mundo, Liwanag sa Bawat Puso was the very theme during the Isidrans Christmas Party, the phrase that made the event so meaningful. Before the night of partying began, the venue was engulfed by a series of dazzling music of different acoustic presentations by Jose Carlo Mamawag and company. And as the audiences settled in, the show finally began. The party started with an invocation followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. With the rendition of talented singing teachers as the opening salvo, the students were overjoyed as the teachers sing to them kilig-to-the-bones love songs, more so was a very warm opening remarks from Jurena M. Cajeras, SSC Vice-President. As part of every Christmas Party, was the Recognition of Honors Students for the First Semester, which was led by the Deans of the different departments. Prior to the celebration were the various contests that took place during the month of December in celebrating the month of Christmas. The winners were declared and awarded with by Dr. Emie D. Gualdaquever, Vice-President for Academic Affairs. To break the ice on the audience, an intermission number was given by the talented Seminarians. Afterwards, Dr. Neonita D. Danao, Ph.D, Dean of the School of Education recognized the passers of the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers. Also, the champion of the Lyrical Hiphop dance contest gave an intermission number to spice up the gym and to break all the ice as the cold night came. Hot sizzling was the presentation that kept the audience alive and entertained. And of course, the moment everyone has eagerly waiting for was the message of Fr. Virgilio H. Delfin, CPA, President of San Isidro College, but sad to say Ms. Evangeline I. Garcia, Executive Vice-President

CHAMPIONSHIP
English classes, as perceived by most students meant boring hours, piles of activity sheets, grammar rules and other linguistic features. Most members of the College populace deviated from the idea of building communication gaps through the usage of what we call as the Universal communication medium since they found out that it was burdensome and difficult to learn. However, it was quite surprising to have individuals who were undeniably eager to learn and dispel the so called Language menace. The Great English Quiz, sponsored by the English Club was a great means to pinpoint those who were spirited and open-minded when it comes to terms of assessing the Language barrier. Small groups were formed as required in order to join, regardless of their course preference. The Multimedia Center was filled with 11 clusters that rivaled against each other but only 3 teams made it to the final round. As the questions get harder, the more pressure they felt. Several intelligent students among groups fought their adversaries with great ounce of sweat while some wanted to become crystal ballers. A close competition was at hand until finally, the group comprised of Hyzen Joy Suclatan, Crystal Supea, Roedan Napone, Eagey Lomongo and Evelyn Cabrera won the Championship round over the other teams. They were awarded right after the competition initiated by Prof. Vivian Irish M. Lorenzo, the English Club Moderator together with the English Club officers. At the end of the day, it proved that Isidrans gave one heck of a good fight.

(Caregiving 11th batch student) emotions were visible on our

November 25, 2011 marked another milestone in our lives. It was Caregiving students 10th batch graduation day and the 11th batch pinning day. There were 17 candidates for graduation and 18 candidates for pinning. At around 3:30 in the afternoon, the mass started and presided by Rev. Fr. Richard Ella, S. J. This activity was also attended by some members of the Schools administration, staff and the trainers. Some of them gave their inspirational message for both the candidates of the graduation and the pinning. That day was a great achievement for all of us in our lives. As they said, It is not the ending but a beginning, and I believe it is true. Yes, our schooling has ended, yet, our RLE (Related Learning Experiences) or our hospital exposure is still to come. This hospital exposure will test how much we learned from the classroom to real-life setting as we apply the theories and principles to the clients that will be assigned to us. On that day, mixed

faces. But, I believe that we are all grateful and happy that finally we are halfway through. Though we are going to miss the school, we have to accept that we need this RLE. Some of the students who had spoken shed tears as they gave their speech. I know how they felt. It is not easy to leave the place where you learn so many things and a place that you love. I totally understand them, because after all the ups-and-downs that each of us went through just to be in school, I can say that all the sacrifices were worth-doing. I also felt that the parents who witnessed that event were overwhelmed by their childrens achievement. Their smiles and presence showed that they are so proud of them. All of these achievements were made possible with Gods will, guidance, help and blessings as we went along the way in doing our part with perseverance, hard work, patience and effort to pass all the modules we took and made it till the end. And, we did it! Now, we stood tall and proud as we received our pins for it is the symbol that we conquered all those battles that we fought and are ready to represent the school.

Roseve Miras

Pope Pius XI once said: Give me an army praying a million rosaries a day and we will conquer the world. We are not out to conquer the worldbut to save it for God to whom it rightly belongs. Last October, 2011, San Isidro College launched the month of the Holy Rosary and World Mission with the theme Pray the rosary for Peace and for mission. But unlike the usual celebrations, it was highlighted with the A MILLION ROSES FOR THE WORLD CAMPAIGN. It was associated with the One point One on Eleven Eleven prayer campaign which aims to pray One Million One Hundred Rosaries at 11:00 am on November 11, 2011 (11 am on 11/11/2011). Hence, on October 11, 2011 at 11am, San Isidro College prayed

the rosary as one family, and is united with other school at the same time and for the same intentions. A Million Roses for the World is a prayer campaign for all Filipinos living in the Philippines and in many parts of the world, to pray the rosary everyday from the tenth of October, 2011, Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, until the thirty first of May, 2012, Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The campaign is also known as Filipinos at Prayer, Peace for All Nations. The program was embarked by the Family Rosary Crusade and was then supported by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. ISIDRANS, let us whole-heartedly pray the rosary not just during the month of October, but everyday. Let us believe in the power of prayer to change the world and make it peaceful. Let us believe in ourselves. Let us claim peace for the world through praying. As Fr. Patrick Peyton once said, A world that prays is a world at peace.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT DEFENDERS

Final Defense: February 14-17, 2012 are allotted days for the fourth year Financial Management students to defend their proposed project held at the Old Conference Room in San Isidro College. Final defense was headed by Mr. David A. Normor who is the adviser of Feasibility Studies with the panelists. On the first day of the said final defense, the group whose project is Bukidnon Kalingawan presented. On the second day was the Game Zone and Garbage Warriors. And last was the group of Madagway Malaybalay Mountain Resort and Vegie Fruitcake. After their final defense, each group was given 15 minutes to go outside the conference room for the deliberation to be discussed by the panelists.

As the fourth year Financial Management students conducted their feasibility studies, they were pressured. Some had disputes among the members. They experienced the hardships of being a student, one of which is to finish their proposed projects. Most of all, they felt nervous because they have to face the panelists. Yet, after the deliberation, each group felt at ease. They realized that being a student is not easy. The senior year Financial Management students left a legacy to the Juniors. That is, their feasibility studies will serve as guide to the Juniors when it is their turn to conduct and defend their FS in the future.

ISIDRAN DANCE SOCIETY IN THE MAKING

Benedict Van Velasco February 21, 2012 Isidran Dance Society Launching held at Sr. Redempta McConnel Gym was the very big change in San Isidro College, which brought light into the institution. It all began when Ms. Norma E. Quisil came into the picture after the previous moderator stepped out into a new life. Maam Q as Ms. Quisil is mostly well known, was a determined moderator, who believed that she can make the dance troupe club better than before, and bring the schools name up higher. At first, it all seemed just a plan and a dream but she never stopped even for a moment of hesitation. Then came the auditions where many students did their very best to show off to be one of the members of the folk dance and modern dance, two different teams but with one goalto dance. Thus, Dance Troupe Club was changed into (IDS) Isidran Dance Society, where only disciplined, determined and talented students can only be members. Strenuous training and practice for hours was worth it and even the students were determined to do their best. What motivated the students more was to always be part of the IDS and for the scholarship grant. Although it is not a 100 percent scholarship grant for the reason that it is still experimental, it did not stop the students from continuing to dance. The first exposure of IDS outside of San Isidro College campus was at Limketkai in Cagayan de Oro City where two dances were performed, Takon y punte and Miligoy de Cebu. The performance was so beautiful that everyone who watched it was amazed. It brought a good image to the school. The school fully supported IDS by shouldering all its expenses. Truly the Isidran Dance Society has a positive impact to the institution with everyone hoping for more determined and talented students to sign up for IDS and we have Maam Q to thank her for all of that.

Pity thy soul who stands on bended knees Embracing herself on shattered dreams Fighting a battle she never really knows With no ally but herself alone. Pity thy soul who is lost and confused As people doubt what she thinks of you Like solving a puzzle of an image not seen Guessing the right places of each tiny piece. Is There to Fear About? 2012: What

-shao13The end of the world is coming! Brace yourselves for December 21, 2012. I have heard of this warning over and over again. At first, with all the attention given to it, I was like So were all gonna die! But now, all I could say is Oh really? What is the fuzz about 2012? Would mankind really meet its end drowned in apocalyptic floods, walloped by a secret planet, seared by an angry sun, or thrown overboard by speeding continents? According to Brian Handwerks 2012: Six-End-of-the-World Myths Debunked, an article for National Geographic News on November 6, 2009, the Maya calendar doesnt end in 2012, as some have said, and the ancients never viewed that year as the time of the end of the world, archaeologists say. But December 21, 2012, (give or take a day) 24 was nonetheless momentous to the Maya. Its the time when the largest grand cycle in the Mayan calendar 1,872,000 days or 5,125.35 years overturns and a new cycle begins . said Anthony Aveni, a Maya expert and archaeoastronomer at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Handwerk furthermore explained that the Maya kept time on a scale few other cultures have considered. During the empires heyday, the Maya invented the Long Count a lengthy circular calendar that transplanted the roots of Maya culture all the way back to creation itself. Now, during the 2012 winter solstice, time runs out on the current era of the Long Count calendar, which began at what the Maya saw as the dawn of the last creation period: August 11, 3114. The Maya wrote that date, which preceded their civilization by thousands of years, as Day Zero, or 13.0.0.0.0. In December 2012 the lengthy era ends and the complicated, cyclical calendar will roll over again to Day Zero, beginning another enormous cycle. The idea is that time gets renewed, that the world gets renewed all over again often after a period of stress the same way we renew time on New Years Day or even on Monday morning, said Averni. So, what do you say? Frightened or relieved? The Mayan Calendar 2012 prophecy is just one of the many end-ofthe-world prophecies interpreted by man. But, the Biblical teaching stresses what Jesus said ..of that day and hour no one knows, no, not the angels in Heaven, not the Son, but the Father. (Mark 13:32) One thing is certain, life is precious and earth is fragile. Remember, The value of life lies not in the length of days, but in the use we make them Michel de Montaigne.

HALLOWEEN JUST GOT SCARIER -MUCH

SCARIER

The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian world governmentwhich replaces sovereign nation-states and an all-encompassing propaganda that ideologies its establishment as the culmination of history's progress. Significant occurrences in politics and finance are speculated to be orchestrated by an unduly influential cabal operating through many front organizations. Numerous historical and current events are seen as steps in an ongoing plot to achieve world domination through secret political gatherings and decision-making processes. Conspiracy theorists generally speculate that the New World Order is being implemented gradually, citing the formation of the U.S. Federal Reserve System in 1913; the League of Nations in 1919; the International Monetary Fund in 1944; the United Nations in 1945; the World Bank in 1945; the World Health Organization in 1948; the European Union and the euro currency in 1993; the World Trade Organization in 1998; the African Union in 2002; and the Union of South American Nations in 2008 as major milestones. For example, in March 2009, as a result of the late-2000s financial crisis, the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation pressed for urgent consideration of a new international reserve currency and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development proposed greatly expanding the I.M.F.'s Special Drawing

Rights. Conspiracy theorists fear these proposals are a call for the U.S. to adopt a single global currency for a New World Order. Conspiracy theorists concerned with surveillance abuse believe that the New World Order is being implemented by the cult of intelligence at the core of the surveillance-industrial complex through mass surveillance and the use of Social Security numbers, the barcoding of retail goods with Universal Product Code markings, and, most recently, Radio-frequency identification (RFID) a tracking system that uses intelligent bar codes to track items in a store tagging via microchip implants, which makes it possible to require a biometrically associated number or mark to make purchases. The ability to implement such a system closely resembles the Number of the Beast prophesied in the Book of Revelation. Since the 19th century, many apocalyptic millennial Christian eschatologists have feared a globalist conspiracy to impose a tyrannical New World Order as the fulfillment of prophecies about the "end time" in the Bible, specifically in the Book of Ezekiel, the Book of Daniel, the Olivet discourse found in the Synoptic Gospels, and the Book of Revelation. They assert that people who have made a deal with the Devil to gain wealth and power have become pawns in a supernatural chess game to move humanity into accepting an utopian world government, which rests on the spiritual foundations of a syncretic-messianic world religion, that will later reveal itself to be a

dystopian world empire, which imposes the imperial cult of an Unholy Trinity Satan, the Antichrist and the False Prophet. In many contemporary Christian conspiracy theories, the False Prophet will either be the last pope of the Catholic Church (groomed and installed by an Alta Vendita or Jesuit conspiracy) or a guru from the New Age movement or even the leader of an elite fundamentalist Christian organization like the Fellowship, while the Antichrist will either be the president of the European Union or the secretarygeneral of the United Nations or even the caliph of a pan-Islamic state. What are being prophesied in the bible will come, and is inevitable. Now is the time to ready for the second coming of Christ, its time to turn from our sins and turn to God. Jesus will come at an hour we least expect it. The kingdom of God is near we must repent, believe that salvation has come and we have nothing to be afraid of. Spread that Good News. Lets change our ways, and keep our eyes wide open. The time is yet to come. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ New_World_Order_%28conspiracy_ theory%29

Revelation 3:3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

THE UNCREATION STORY
Nickolas dela Torre Aznar

The Earth was once said to be the most beautiful place in the universe with intelligent beings known as man dwelling with other creatures from the air, land and sea. At first, nature was at its peak and was preserved considering that it is one of the most significant facets of the Earth which gave it its beauty, serenity, exquisiteness, and magnificence. People could still see the wonder of nature. Not until one day. On the first day, humans noticed the animals that jump in the wilds, birds that freely fly in the skies and water creatures that splendidly swim in the waters. And they said, Let us hunt those animals for food, or shoot them for game. These will surely give us time to engage ourselves in recreation and food for our families. So humans were in high spirits when they shoot for game or hunt for food. They were happy and said It was good. On the second day, humans noticed the green and wide forests with tall trees. They realized that these trees can be made into some things beneficial for life. And they said, Let us cut trees and make things for our own use. These would be beneficial in making tools for our everyday life. Anyway, we can still plant trees if ever there would be less in the future. So humans started to cut trees and make pencils, wooden tables, wooden chairs, cabinets, walls, etc. Forests were devastated and there was a constant cutting of trees. But humans were proud of what they have done since a part of their everyday lives are now being addressed and man said It was good. On the third day, humans observed that their place were pale, characterless and insipid, and they said, Let us build cities, skyscrapers, concrete

and winding roads, and protracted bridges for our economy. We dont need to live in simplicity; we need to develop. What is the purpose of our skills if we will not use them? These cities, skyscrapers, concrete and winding roads and protracted bridges will surely make our industry popular and developed. Humans had devastated nature more and started on acting out their plans. They carried these out impressively and made their industry proud, popular and developed. They covered the Earth with steel and concrete and they said, It was good. On the fourth day, humans noticed the problem of the drainage of their firms. They seek some elucidations to address the problem they had and were able to glance at the clear blue seas. And they said, Ahah! Let us lead the drainage systems of our firms to end up on that clear blue seas of the Earth so that we dont need to clean up our waste. Anyway, people dont reside in seas; they will be on the cities we made. They did so. Wastes are drained to the seas killing the wondrous creatures in it and affected the place these creatures thrive. The waters became dark and murky. And they said, It was good. On the Fifth day, humans gazed on the garbage and wastes from the firms and seek for ways on how to eradicate them. And humans said Let us just burn these wastes. This would be the fastest way to be free of these wastes. We dont need to spend much money for burning these ravages. So man started to burn the wastes. The air became dirty. The air became densed with smoke and carbon. Many died due to air pollution. However, humans are not aware of these unbecoming and still said, It is good.

On the sixth day, humans noticed that there are different races in the world and people have nothing that could defend themselves in case there will be revolutions and uprisings that may result from different races. And man said, Let us make missiles, fighter planes, bombs, guns, rifles, pistols and other artilleries as our defense from other people who may seek to harm and spoil us. This could make us superior from other people who are underclassed. In this way, we could preserve our rule with what are under us. Humans then started making missiles, bombs, guns, rifles, pistols and other artilleries. After, they were proud of themselves because of what they have done and said, It was good. On the seventh day, human said, Let us test the weapons we made and see its effects in order that we can still have some modifications if ever there will be malfunctions. We are intelligent enough to perfect these weapons making us the most powerful and in control of all. So, humans tested what they made. The weapons they made were not at all perfect. There were many accidents and upsets that happened. They themselves were also being accidentally affected. Many were destroyed. Devastated. Widowed. Killed. Orphaned. Still, It was good. For on the seventh day, humans rested on the deathly still Earth. The place was oblivious and there was a raucous, deafening silence. Now, man rested not in a good slumber or a doze but ETERNALLY. For there were humans no more. Humans were killed; by their own liability. Alas! No more devastators. No more destroyers. No more slayers. AND IT WAS GOOD.

LOVE NEVER ENDS

Jade C. Gerona
When I was a high school student, I heard from teachers even from my elder siblings that life is not easy because it is filled with difficulties and problems which surely turn the peoples lives upside down. There are painful experiences that make a person sad. As we walk through our journey in life we meet different people. Some of them can become our close friends. Some of them becomes our special friends - people whom we can build special relationships with. A relationship that is more than friendship, the so-called uyab-uyab. Yes, I cannot deny the fact that I had been engaged to this kind of relationship. I fell in love with a woman who made my day complete. She meant the world to me by then. But she had my heart broken. She left me all alone in so much sadness and pain. But then again, she taught me a lesson I cannot forget. Love does hurt. She taught me how to survive in the world of heartaches the moment she broke my heart. After all, despite this painful experience, I am thankful that I am still breathing and continuing my life. Finally, I am now in the stage of recovery. Yes, finally nakaka-move on na ako. I do not want to become a prisoner of my past, though my past contributed to who I am today. I know that life is not perfect. It is always accompanied with problems and struggles, but mind you, if you face all these with faith, surely there is happiness that awaits you. If you will let everything pass, you might just regret it for the rest of your life. Do not be afraid to get hurt. If you do not risk something, you will not gain anything. Just as one day when I was walking in our farm, I saw a beautiful flower in a branch of a tree. I tried to get it, but suddenly I lost my balance and consequently fell to the ground. I was so disappointed. My eyes were closed with tears. But when I regained my consciousness, I saw many beautiful water lilies floating around me. I realized how simple and amazing life is but we only make it so complicated. If you fall to the ground, fall like a seed that grows back. God let us fall at times to fill our lives with good virtues. Life takes away what we desire to give us more than what we expected. Finally, I found my endless love through sharing my talents, knowledge and blessings to others especially to the needy. As Saint Pedro Poveda said, No one is poor that has nothing to give and no one is so rich that has nothing to receive.

LOOKING FOR A PERFECT SHOE?

Gloria C. Lantaya

I happen to go window-shopping one beautiful day. As I turned my eye, I saw a bunch of shoes right next to me. Oh, these are adorable! I thought to myself. Being a shoe lover, I had the desire to try them all and at least own them for a while. Sounds crazy is it not. Later on, I started fitting every shoe that I like. Some of them are too big, some are too small, and finally I got something that fits right. It has been a big struggle for me to find the perfect pair of shoes. I almost tried them all before I got the right one. From that experience it made me realize one thing. Just like a shoe, if someone is for you, they will just fit in perfectly, no forcing, no struggling and no pain. Sometimes we experience the same situation in real life. We try to put things

together the way we want them to be, but no matter how hard we try, still, it will not work. There are just things in life in which we cannot control. Moreover, fighting against all odds would not be enough to keep things going. Just like a shoe that does not fit perfectly, no matter what you do, it will not work for you. If you force it, you might just hurt yourself. So better, let it go even though you badly want it. For a pair of shoe, it is easier, but for someone you love, definitely not. It is hard to let go of someone you truly value. Specially those of whom you consider the most important part of your life. However, as they say, if that person is meant for you, then he/she is for you. If not, then just let him/her go because he/

she might not be the right person for you. You will just end up forcing yourself in his or her life. Love has its own mysterious ways of handling things. It might not work for you this time, but never lose hope. The world is round, and surely, you will get by. By that time, you will realize that it was worth it because you found something more than what you have lost. I hope you will find your perfect shoe, someone that fits in your world without forcing, struggling and feeling so much pain. Life is too short to waste in reminiscing regrets and disappointments. Continue to grow by loving, because it is only by loving that one makes the world go ROUND.

Ana Twinkle M Danuco One Peso? 5 pesos? Or even the centavo we found somewhere while walking. Maybe we do not care picking it up thinking that is of no worth. But we must always remember that without this centavo that we consider of no worth, a One Million pesos cannot exist. Even up to this time, still, without savings, there will be no investment available. That is why banks are established. As a student, I found it hard to save money because I only ask money from my parents and that my daily allowance is very little and is only enough for me. Why not save a P 1, P5, or P10 daily, is it hard? Then if the coin bank will later be full, we can then save it in the bank and we will gain interest from our savings. Lets take a look at this table:

No wonder why some went from rugs to riches, because they know how to save their money properly and they have set their goals. We do not need to be a lawyer or of a high paying profession to do this, but of course, being in a better profession will give us opportunity to save more. It does not even make it hard for an ice cream vendor to save and invest for a better business. The most important thing is we learn to save, and of course, do not forget to give to the Lord His share of our income. It is He who gave us everything. Let us thank Him for what we have. Earn, save, and invest!

The mere fact that technology is the order of the day is sufficient to highlight the question How important is technology in education, business and individuals? It is probably scary to imagine a life without all the technology around us, as we are so much habitual to it. Considering the pace at which technology is advancing, it has become necessary to understand the importance of technology so that we can keep up with the racing time. Technology had become important in the fast life of today. It is technology which had sped up our lives. It is technology which has brought distant locations closer and made the world a smaller place to live in. Many thanks on the progress of science and technology. New technological devices are now being sold like gadgets that is now in today. Nowadays, gadgets are more upgraded just like television, mobile

phones, iPhone, laptop, smart pen, digital camera, play station, and many more. Gadget communication is the key to current times. Devices need to be able to connect people together, to share information so that appointments are not missed and family members are just a button press away. Moreover, gadgets make many things more efficient, but like every other aspect of life; they come with their own set of disadvantages as well. Using gadgets can contribute to high electric bills, just like tv and computer games which many people are addicted to. On tv, people usually watch some films or game shows, they do not go out nor do some sport. Aside from it, gadgets can

easily be imitated. Some people would want to take advantage and deceive people so that they can gain profit. Gadgets can also give destruction to our environment especially when we excessively use it. Imagine the world had no gadgets people will be left behind, business will not grow and economy will not progress. Though gadgets has its own disadvantages, still they can give us benefits as long as we use them in a proper way.

Are you familiar with the song Heal the World? This song was composed by the late Michael Jackson, and part of the lyrics of this song goes like this: Heal the world, make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race. There are people dying if you care enough for the living. Make a better place for you and for me. A song that somehow made me reflect on. It transcends on how to give importance to each one of us, to live accordingly for the common good and common goal of all individuals. Some of these common goals are to live in peace and unity. I know that it is not easy to promote these. They entail great responsibility and actions. Each one of us is greatly challenged to be a peacemaker. Peace should begin in us as the Bible says We cannot give what we do not have. Everyday is a challenge for us to attain our goals; a call for renewal and change, to replace hatred by forgiveness and anger by love. This challenge takes a life-long process - a process that should begin in each one of us. We celebrated the Mindanao Week of Mindanao last December, 2012. I heard a lot about peace then. We really give great importance to that kind of special celebration over and over again. But why is it that after that,

it seems nothing happened. We tend to disregard what we heard and learned. In the light of contemporary world, we are always in the midst of violence, conflict and destruction of nature, terror ad so on. Someone said that it is really difficult to achieve peace especially that we are living in an environment with violence around. Is it really true that peace is determined by the place or environment we are into? Absolutely not! Let us reflect on peace, that it not determined by where you are situated. Even in the midst of war, you can achieve peace because peace is an individual pursuit of happiness. Even if you are in a monastery, if you are not ready to accept and feel the holy presence of God in your heart, and to be open to Him, peace is impossible to attain. Peace entails love and forgiveness. The moment we refrain hurting others, the moment we forgive others, we are practicing peace and it is making peace after all. That is why there were lots of questions that hung in my mind as I reflect on. Am I able to be in peace when I am confronting suffering? Do I feel peace when my friends or people whom I love betray me, or hurt me? Do I not think of vengeance when others offend me? In our life, there are times that we really need to forgive even though it is very difficult to do so. The same

as loving, we are asked to love not only those who loved us, but also those who are underprivileged and even our enemies. We tend to make reservations for our love and forgiveness. We put them to compartments. To love and to forgive are ways to attain peace. They keep us from trouble and violence. In our everyday experiences, Jesus reminds us that there is no use of loving when there is no peace in our hearts. What is the meaning of peace when there is no love? To achieve peace, we need to have a change of heart (metanoia), attitude and perception about others. Peace should begin in our inner self and it will come only if we allow the grace of God to penetrate in our hearts. Only then will we be able to accept and forgive others. If there is trust and respect for one another and equal treatment to each individual, only then will the seeds for peace grow and bear fruit. The great characters in the world have always been those who had struggled against all kinds of violence and conflict just to attain peace. We are greatly challenged to be an ambassador of peace. How good it is to be addicted with PEACEbook!

FLAWED AND FABULOUS

INSECURE, a word often used also by an INSECURE PERSON. You know it is true . For every person in the world has something to be insecure about. I know you are confident but secretly you still feel something unsure. Hiding your insecurities will not make them go away. Hence, let me give you the chance to face them step by step. consequence is insensitivity to others. 3. Self-Promoting Insecure people tend to talk about themselves constantly, as if they have to prove themselves. 4. Bullying Insecure people feel threatened by others and one way to cope with this is to try and squash them. The most threatening person of all to an insecure person is a secure person, because they can sense the power. So if someone keeps saying bad things about you, he/she is insecure about you. 5. Overly authoritative Insecure people in positions of power tend to compensate for their lack of confidence by taking out their frustrations on their subordinates. 6. Overly competitive Competitiveness is part of a healthy emotional makeup, but overcompetitivesness is a sign of a problem. Someone who cannot take losing by making a big emotional display lacks confidence. 7. Materialistic A very dangerous coping mechanism for insecurity is buying things you cannot afford just to show off. You keep buying things you do not need but buy them to keep up with the fad. If you can relate to any situation like this or know someone who is, then definitely you are insecure. But honestly, what is there to be insecure about?

Its not who you are that holds you back, its who you think youre not Kayrel Ace Awiten
your insecurities. ACCEPT THE BRUTAL FACT. Nevertheless, the challenge does not lie in admitting your insecurities, but in conquering them.

FOURTH STAGE. Face the music.

FIRST STAGE. Keeping your enemies closer

You have to know your enemies. Insecurities lie above you and beneath you. You must realize that these feelings exist in you. You may be insecure in the way you look. You do not have perfect hair or you have acne in your face. You may be insecure that you are not smart enough. You cannot get good grades no matter how much you study. You may be insecure that you are not financially stable. You cannot buy what others have. You may be insecure of your family and friends. You do not always have them to support you. Well, these are just the few things on the list you might be insecure about or may be even more. Do not you worry my friend, knowing this exists is just a second scroll away.

Do you want to be happy? Then this is the fourth step in obtaining happiness in life coming to terms with who you really are. One of the greatest challenges in your life is becoming comfortable in your own skin. The beginning of security is to LAUGH AT YOUR SELF, realizing that no one is damn so perfect. No one sees your flaws and mistakes like you do. You know you are more than that overly done make-up just to attend a class in room S12. You are more than that person always sitting at the farthest chair inside the gym. You are not just a voter but instead the one who should be getting voted. Face the demons inside of you. Know that you are more than what they say of you.

FIFTH STAGE. Breaking free.

SECOND STAGE. Denial.

Yes. I know you are still hesitant to fully realize that insecurities reign in you. That is why we have the second stage DENIAL. Just because you deny the truth does not mean it does not exist anymore. We all go through this stage. Denial is a coping mechanism. It is normal when you are bombarded with information you do not want to believe in. Seriously, who wants to be insecure anyway? I know you do not want to. If you want to be really sure, here are some other common signs of insecurity. 1. Cannot enjoy silence Some insecure people just cannot deal with silence. They fill every void with meaningless chatter, almost to avoid having to reflect on themselves. 2. Excessive Joking Another coping mechanism for insecurity is constant joking. It feels good when everyone laughs at your joke and an insecure person craves for this attention. The unfortunate

THIRD STAGE. Stop. Look at your self. And think.

You do not realize that these insecurites can destroy you and the best person you can possibly be. These feelings prevent you from enjoying the challenges and risks in your life. It is not about how other people say about you but how you see yourself everyday in the mirror. If you think you cannot, chances are, you will not. Stop feeding yourself with negative thoughts. Yes, my friend, this is the time you have to look at yourself and start admitting

If at this point you still do not believe in yourself or even to what I am saying, at least accept the PERSON YOU ARE NOT. Maybe you should know by now that even the celebrities many aspire to look like have physical flaws too. As I have said every person has something to be insecure and I mean EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD, even I. I am flat-chested but so is Kiera Knightley. I am short and Eva Longoria is too. The difference is all of them embraced their flaws and that gives them their inner confidence. That is what you are missing out. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF YOURSELF. Open up. There is strength in numbers. Know that you are not alone. Change how you think and feel. The way to being beautiful is thinking beautiful. It is the flaws that make you unique. Having an iphone 4S is exquisite but being unique is far more beautiful. You need to embrace everything that you believe is ugly. Embrace the person who says that you are ugly. Tell them, you might not be as beautiful as they expect you to be nor as smart as anyone else but these do not make you any LESS OF A PERSON TO ANYONE. Insecurities do not define your worth. In fact, it is all just a part of the process in realizing who you can be. If you believe in everything I have said then I should tell you this, YOU ARE FLAWED AND FABULOUS. Believe me. You are.

WITH

CHANGES
misfortune and does absolutely nothing to improve your state of affairs. Rather, you may alienate the very people who would be happy to support you through your hardships if you turn into a grouch and someone who feels permanently victimized and scolds the entire world for your troubles. A little ranting is fine at the beginning; a sourpuss for life is someone who becomes increasingly isolated. Do not allow this to happen to you. Learn How to Be an Optimist. Move on. You cannot remain rooted in the current or a past situation. It may feel comfortable and returning to a habit is always the simpler path of least resistance. Yet, change requires change from you as well and you will need to learn to resist turning back to the past and trying to recreate what once was. Forge on into the future and stand proud. Use what you have learned but don't let it use you. Look for the Constant. Having something there like your family as a constant gives you a more comforting feeling.

When we encounter changes in our lives how do we cope up with it? Changes are never far from our door, whether it's breaking up with an ex, relocating to another area for any reason, having a best friend move away, the death of a relative, the loss of a job or a demotion or something that once meant a great deal to you but that has not turned out the way you hoped it would. I cant think of one thing more disconcerting in our lives than change. But the simple fact is that change is a fact of life. And Im sure that you are not unlike most people in that you find change to be a hard thing to cope with. You dont need to feel self-conscious about your resistant to change. Most people are. Humans are creatures of habit that feel safe and secure by the presence of consistency and predictability. We create comfort in our lives by striking a balance between all the things that pull and tug at our time and attention. A fancy word for this balance is homeostasis. And, as you no doubt experience from time to time, change upsets the apple cart by disrupting the careful balance of consistency and predictability that youve struck in your life. When your life is thrown out of balance, youre more vulnerable to experiencing feelings of anxiety, sadness, even depression. Why? Because when change occurs, an ending or loss is createda loss of comfort, routine, position in life, role in family, and/or community. Loss then becomes a catalyst to experiencing emotional discomfort and pain. Like anything else, effectively coping with change is a skill that is learned and must be practiced in order to be mastered. Its up to youno matter how hard you try you cant avoid change. By applying the simple tool of positive reframing, you can make a hard situation must easier for you.Being prepared your changing world involves flexibility, strength of self-purpose and belief in one's own worth.

Here are some IDEAS to help you.

Be prepared. Life is full of unexpected surprises; don't let this be a lesson you refuse to learn. Death, loss, and strange situations will be a part of your life, no matter how much you may try to shelter or protect yourself from it. The major key to coping with change is to accept it reality of change and its inevitability. Realize there's only one thing you can control - yourself. Once you have accepted the reality that you cannot change others and that the only way they can change you is if you let them, then you suddenly find yourself empowered. Empowerment is a key element of change acceptance and change management. When you feel empowered, you will roll with changes as a whale rolls through the ocean waves, commanding and unbothered by events but conscious of a need to roll with the surrounding effects to lessen their impacts. Take time to recoup. If you are grieving after a death, be it a person or a pet, do not let

anyone tell you how long to grieve for. That decision is yours. It does make sense to make a decision in your own mind about what grieving you need to do, as your life cannot meander in sorrow forever. However, it is most clear that those who avoid grieving end up worse off and can experience break-downs and inability to cope at unexpected times. With grief for death, there will always be a piece of your heart missing but if you accept this and you are willing to carry the memories as lively as can be for the rest of your life, this will help you reach some acceptance of what has happened. If it is a job loss or some other personal loss that is not death, you still need mourning time to assuage your sadness and grief over a loss of something that once filled a large part of your life. Perhaps a small ending ceremony of some sort will help to give you a sense of closure and allow you to move forward. Be purposeful. Change occurs but you do not need to be buffeted by it. Have a purpose in life, no matter what it is, that serves as your own personal anchor. While it is important to be open to change and to be flexible as to the possibilities that change opens up for you, it is also important to remain true to yourself and the dreams that you hold in life. This self-belief and your dreams are your anchor. Whatever else life throws in your way, these are the barometers by which you can measure your progress in the world and how you are reacting to change. Be prepared to question your methods of getting to where you wish to go but be less prepared to change your destination if it means dismantling the person you are inside. Look for the silver lining of change. Remember the adage Every cloud has a silver lining. There is a reason for this saying - wise humans of the past knew well that change could herald both fear and opportunity. Once the fog of shock, despair and anger pass, look for the opportunities that exist in the change. There may be an amazing find, such as memoirs written by a lost one that were uncovered when his or her house was emptied out and these recall many wonderful times of all family members. Or the fact that there is a gain in time for those who have lost employment, time in which to reanalyze one's life and direction and make fruitful changes to oneself and one's sense of direction. If it's loss of employment, ask yourself if you enjoyed that job or were hanging on just to survive and keep things going. Job loss is often a springboard for people to dust off their dreams and find a new occupation that makes them happier. Look for the opportunities that you can make use of rather than continuously viewing the change as a deep loss from which time nothing will ever be the same. Leave harping on behind you. When a change thrusts you into complaining, it can be understandable for a short period of time. Friends and family will rally at the beginning of a misfortune. However, as time progresses, constant complaining turns you into your family's and friend's

Here are some TIPS to help you.

Seek support online from people who have gone through the same type of change as you have. Look for forums about that change, whether it's divorce, death, relocation or job loss. Sometimes a sudden drastic change in life is also a good time to change habits you've wanted to change for a long time. Since everything is different, it's a good time to set in habit changes. Try your new habit for three weeks, if it sticks you were ready to make that change and it's an achievement in itself. Grieve and take care of your feelings. Even if the big change in your life is a happy one like getting married or moving to a place you always wanted to live, accept that there will be some emotional losses and work through them privately. Don't drag down your closest loved ones with the down side of a happy change in life, talk to people who've been through it before and ask how they adapted.

Here are some WARNINGS to help you.

Don't beat yourself up in the attempt to find good things in change. Sometimes change brings so much negativity that facing it is an enormous hardship. The bouncy phrases of joy will not do it for you. In such cases, seek others to lean on. Some of the sources to use are family, friends, professional helpers. Take care not to wear out those close to you. This is a good reason why a neutral, professional outsider will often be your best choice if you need long-term support.

essay

Arnold R. Yee (yearn)

One of the contents of the Zenit News Vatican Dossier section a news agency specializing in coverage of the Holy Father, life in the Holy See, and events of interest to the Churchsent to me through my email last October 22, 2010 was about the visit of the new ambassador of Ecuador to the Holy See. One of Pope Benedicts messages to the envoy was about education. The Holy Father said that education goes beyond the mere transmission of knowledge. It is about love for truth. I quote, "The most profound identity of the school and the university is not exhausted in the mere transmission of useful data and information, but responds to the will to inculcate in students the love of the truth, which will lead them to that personal maturity with which they will have to exercise their role of protagonists in the social, economic and cultural development of the country. Inculcate in students the love of the truth. Wow! What a great challenge ahead of us educators! It postulates that we ourselves must be the first lovers of truth, that we can only be effective communicators of truth if we have been its first witnesses. The fact of our experience affirms that we cannot give what we do not have; we cannot teach what we do not know nor show what we have not seen. But what is truth? We both have truths. Are mine the same as yours? In this world of pluralism and individualism, is there an absolute truth? What kind of truth are we to impart and show to our students so that they would grow as lovers of truth? As the philosopher Simone Weil once said, The need for truth is more sacred than any other need. I would like to share my thoughts by going back to the movie shown to us by our Philosophy of Knowledge (Epistemology) professor, Dr. Manny Dy of the Ateneo de Manila University. The movie was entitled Rashomon. It was perhaps the driest and the most dragging movie I have ever seen in my life. It fades in contrast and comparison to movies like the Expendables or Avatar,

EDUCATION: A L
Angelina Jolies Salt and the most recent Captain America. Rashomons story is so ordinary and uninterestingly revolves around a dead samurai and the various testimonies on how he died. There are just three major scenesthe destroyed temple, the jungle and the courtroom. But Rashomons simplicity as a whole reveals so much our many thirsts and hungers nowadays. Like a humble seed that makes us see the Kingdom of God, Rashomon shows the lament and deep longing of our heart, the longing for Truth. Rashomons story is dragging and ordinary and yet we can find there its profundity. I dont understand. I dont understand. I dont understand are the first words spoken in the movie. I believe these words of fear and confusion regarding the whole situation reverberate our own. Reading the newspapers, listening to the radio, watching the TV and even just scanning magazines that talk about health and diet and the good life, we could easily get lost in the labyrinthine claim of truth and validity. Endorsers are claiming that theirs is the best and they are the first. You would hear also from many local stations airing gipamatud-an ug nasulayan na ang kaepektibo or kini ang kamatuoran then someone tells her or his testimony on how she or he has recovered from an illness because of the product. In todays world of instantscoffee, noodles, food, mate, etc.computers and gizmos that make everything fast and easy like the magic wand of the fairy godmother, the obvious and the truly important in life are often unnoticed because many of us are rushing and racing aimlessly. While it is true that the development of technologies contributed so much in making this world move faster and a better place to live, it seems to me that it has contributed much also to a sense of loss in every man and woman in finding a home within oneself. People are becoming lonelier. We become like foreigners to our own selves. Some have hundreds to a thousand friends online, spending time, energy and money in front of a computer but failed to recognize the next person seated next to him or her. There seems to be a loss of inner peace, contentment, security, love, understanding, care and concern, where our uniqueness and dignity are accepted and respected. People are paying too much attention to accidentals rather than the essentials, to having than being. Furthermore, in politics, business and even in religion and education, questions hover on the integrity and moral ascendancy of those we look up to. We could get confused on who and what to believe, whose statements are true and credible and what to follow. There is an unheard scream and cry and a lonely sigh in our heart and confusions also cloud our mind. If we probe our heart, we would perhaps be surprised that even to ourselves it is very hard to tell if we too are consistently truthful. This reality somehow gives me a sense that this time, maybe because of frustration and exhaustion in search for the elusive truth, many of us are resorting to the comfort of claiming and telling half-truths and trying to survive with white lies. We are becoming less and less discerning people. I was in Manila many years back when the showing of the movie the da Vinci Code was much anticipated by people because of its controversy. On its opening day, I went to a first class cinema to watch it. Lo and behold, there was a very long queue of people and you can feel their excitement triggered by intrigue and hear from them how much they would want to know the truth and the facts about the love relationship between Jesus and Magdalene! The book, with its movie version, had spellbound us by its claim of truth and facts. As a result, the movie industry raked a lot of money from capitalizing on our thirsts and desires, hunger and longing for truth. We hunger for truth. We hate lies. But we enjoy every controversy, scandalsnational and personal and what is dangerously false.

LOVE FOR TRUTH

The different testimonies and claims of the witnesses in Rashomon reveal a familiar image about us. Let us take for instance the following truth testimonies in the movie. We have the testimony of the soul of the dead man who speaks about his death through a medium. If he appears to also have told lies, it is not far from our own when during election times our dead countrymen vote, sometimes even twice. Then we have the bandit whose life is lived on lies but enjoys so much telling his truth reveals also our own highly publicized scandals, broadcasted lies, false promises, etc.. Telling lies has become an epidemic already that, save for a few, one could catch it like catching a cold without him or her knowing it. Of course, it is hard to deny that some others are doing it with sealed lips but open palms. We sacrifice the value of honesty, integrity, sense of community in place of falsehood and vanity. It is sad, unfortunate and alarming. It is very revealing of what we value as a people. So, what then? Where do we go from here? Are we so buried already in these situations that there is not any glimmer of hope left for us? In Rashomon, a man desperately threw out the last remaining fire after hearing all those stories of miseries. Another man, a woodcutter, after they have found a crying baby willingly took him as his own after the others refused because they already have much of their own trouble. If I were that first man, I would not have thrown that remaining fire. I am a Christian and I am a teacher. There is always hope. St. Paul tells the Romans, Spe Salvi Sumusin hope we were saved (8:24). As long as there are human beings, specially us teachers, who, like the second man who cuddled in his arm the crying babythe cry of humanity for truth? there is hope for each one of us. There is hope for the country. I firmly believe in our role as teachers. Yes, we have our own share of limitations and weaknesses. We have our own troubles and burdens to take care but these should not hinder, much less paralyze us from exercising and fulfilling our role. We are the molders of the minds and the values of the young today, not so much by the sharpness of our minds, the content of our lessons and the logic of our arguments, but by our very own lives of virtue and wisdom. Students rarely remember our lessons; they remember most our person. They learn by examples through our presence with them, and, by our very life of dedication, service, ideals and integrity. Our life of dedicated labor which is often criticized and neglected yet overworked and underpaid, would be a beacon of light for our students out of the darkness of ignorance and falsehood. The simplicity of our life and the integrity of our vocation as teachers could open the eyes of our students to see that there is more to life than all our acquiring and possessing. There is more in being good than gold. We have to take the first step in becoming lovers of truth when no one dares. The knowledge we have should hopefully make us true witnesses of what is True, Good and Beautiful. Socrates once said, All knowledge is knowledge of the Good. The more knowledgeable one becomes, the more he or she should become good. As the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines in one of their pastoral letters said, in living the Truth, we can have a life of peace, justice and love. Let us not just teach our students how to succeed in making money to have a good life but to teach them that having a good and a successful life is not just about money or material possessions. We have a noble vocation to help set our students free from the materialistic values of the world

by accompanying them in search for the truth, in thought, in words and deeds so that they would grow into becoming lovers of truth. As a catholic educator, to become a lover of truth means to be a lover of Jesus and to be Jesus beloved. The philosopher Simone Weil said, Christ likes us to prefer truth to himself, because before being Christ, he is truth. If one turns aside from him to go towards the truth, one will not go far before falling into his arms. We have one great teacher in Jesus. The ordinariness of his life from birth to death has changed the course of our history because he is the One and Unchanging Truth. He shows us that the smallest power of love is more powerful than the greatest combined powers of sin and death. He calls himself the Truth (John 14:6) and by the Truth he brings, we marvel how great things could come from humble beginnings. We too could be humble means to show to our students who is the Truth than just defining for them what is Truth. Like the mustard seed that makes us see the kingdom, by the ordinariness and simplicity of our life as teachers the world will find hope because Knowledge and Truth will find not only their speakers but exemplars in us. Let us love the truth, live in the Truth and the Truth will set us free (John 8:31-32). Let us be witnesses of Jesus, the teacher par excellence. As he had done, so we must, he said (John 13:15). If not, it is worse than bandits, the plagues, famine, fire or war, as the priest in the movie Rashomon lamented. The movie ended with the reformed woodcutter taking the baby in his hands. He had already six (6) children to take care, but still, he took the baby they have found as his seventh. Yes, Seventh. Does the number ring a bell? The woodcutter who had nothing got everything. He had become a lover of Truth.

ANOTHER LIVING PLANET

Benedict Velasco
Earth, our home, as we know it is the third planet from the Sun, and the densest and fifth-largest of the eight planets in the Solar System. It is also the largest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets. It is sometimes referred to as the world, the Blue Planet, or by its Latin name, Terra and. It is the only planet in our solar system that is capable of sustaining life. But that belief has now been disproved, Kepler 22b as it is named is the very first planet that is almost same to our planet Earth that can sustain life. According to Elizabeth Landau of CNN (http://edition. cnn.com/2011/12/05/us/kepler-nasa-planet/index. html), Kepler-22b is the first confirmed planet in the "habitable zone," the area around a star where a planet could exist with liquid water on its surface, which has been discovered by NASA's Kepler mission. The planet's radius is about 2.4 times that of the Earth. It is located about 600 light years away. Its orbital period is shorter than that of the Earth: a "year" on Kepler22b is 290 days instead of 365.There were two other planets confirmed this year by other projects in the habitable zone, but their stars are much cooler than our Sun, and their orbits are more like that of Venus or Mars, scientists say.The Kepler mission reported in February that it had found 54 planet candidates in the habitable zone; Kepler-22b is the first of these to be confirmed, and those results will be published in The Astrophysical Journal. There are still 48 potential planets from that batch. The universe is a very big mysterious place for us to explore, other than finding a living planet, there might even be other people living on those planets, and then we can answer the very question, are we alone? The exploration serves as an opportunity for us to find other living planets and living species. Earth is slowly becoming a small place for us to live and finding another planet might help us ease that problem and widen our understanding of the universe itself. Kepler 22b might give us the answer when the time comes that scientist may be able to land on that planet and to see and confirm first hand if the planet can really be a place for humans to live.

SOCIETY
v. Arazo Our day is never complete without the explosive news on violence, corruption, crime, and injustice. There is always a lesser percentage on positive headlines being reported compared to terrible ones. Worst, we are sometimes the victims or one of the contributors of these cruel realities. Some bills are proposed that will eventually make a sin acceptable just like abortion. Indeed, the social system of our country is declining. Our values are constantly attacked. One of the painful truths is that those who are involved in these forms of violence are getting younger and younger. Even children engage themselves into pre-marital sex, abortion, alcoholism, drug addiction, and suicide. It is also very alarming that some of these take place in their schools and houses. These two places are supposed to be the safest places to stay. Domestic violence is increasing. Indeed, our society today bleeds and needs immediate healing through social change. Despite all these miseries, how come not all of us are alarmed and worried? Why is it that the government spends more time and money on their political and personal interests instead on the needs their people? When typhoon Sendong hit Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City, many expressed their sentiments to help even other countries. But did it reached the victims? Do we need to personally experience all forms of violence for us to realize the need for immediate change of our wounded society to a healed society? I want to be an agent of peace. I want to take part. I wish that all social injustices will end. I want social change. I want to start it with myself, then with my family, and eventually with my community. I want to help heal our bleeding society. Yet, I am scared. I cannot do it alone. My voice is so tiny that it can be left unheard and my own desire will be ignored. Will you do it with me? Please. In great faith, our unified desire for social change can go farther than individual willpower.

BATU BATO SA LANGIT ANG TAMAAN WAG MAGALIT

By: 1991
Magandang araw! Ako nga pala si Susan. Mag-aapat na taon na ako sa paaralang ito. Ilang buwan nalang ay tatahakin ko na ang career na gusto kong abutin. Oh! I almost forgot, I just wrote this article not to tell everyone about my life but to let you know some things that I had observed, witnessed and experienced these past years sa pag-aaral ko sa paaralang ito. kayong mga members na kaylangan mo munang suhulan ng pagkain o ano pa para lang tulungan kayo sa trabaho sa organization? Ilan? Marami?

Teachers and Students

Leaders and Followers

It was the time for meeting de avance. Lahat ng tumakbo sa pinakamataas na posisyon ay kaibigan ko pero mas malapit ako sa isang tao na tumatakbo in the said position. Kaya, alam ko ang attitude niya towards work and responsibility. Unfortunately, hindi siya nanalo. There were many feedbacks. Marami kasing friends kaya nanalo, said some. I dont know if that was true. The oath of office came. Hindi ko lang alam if they understood what they swore in front of the whole studentry. Its time for service! Nakakapanghinayang ding malaman na kaya pala gustong maging opisyales ang ilan not because of the service but for the benefits they will get. And they will come up into conclusion that the officers are irresponsible without acknowledging their efforts exerted. Is that fair? By the way, I remember someone. Hes a good follower. He truly is. May kilala ba kayong ganyan? At isa pa, may kilala ba

Time na! declared mostly by the students. Magliligpit na sana sila ng gamit ay naudlot pa. May 5 minutes pa. Tapusin muna natin ang lesson. said the instructor. Diba nakakasawang pakinggan? May iba naman na kapag hindi mo gusto o mayroong cold war between the student and teacher, ang grades naman ang pinagdiskitahan. Maams and Sirs, wala namang personalan. Sa mga students naman, did you observe that may nagtatransform from human to swan or giraffe during exams or quizzes? Hindi natin alam na Someone is watching us. Lets learn to be honest because in every good deed we will gain a reward while if we tolerate a bad one, we will earn a punishment. During morning classes, I always see students whose eyes are red na para bang may sore eyes. I was so skeptic because if you have sore eyes, surely, you will take a bath early in the morning pero kabaliktaran iyon ng nakikita ko. Para silang hindi nalakaran ng tubig iyon palay mga wala silang tulog roaming around the city all night long drinking. Hindi ba nakakapagod yan? Hindi ba sila nasasayangan sa perang ginagasta nila na most of them were given by their parents who are working very hard para sila makapag-aral? I want to enjoy and forget my problems for a while, katwiran ng iba.

If we put the Philippines, it would be no more than a dot.' 'I want that dot,' Romulo insisted." The UN seal now has a tiny dot for the Philippines.
