Anaesthetics Department: Raedwald Day Surgery Unit Responsible to: Unit Lead Raedwald Day Surgery Reports to: Team Leader Principal objectives: To provide clinically effective, high quality, individualized peri-operative patient care working within the multi-disciplinary team

To deliver patient care throughput the peri-operative pathway to include patient escort, anaesthetic care, scrubbing for surgical procedures, post anaesthetic recovery, ward and nurse led discharge To promote a safe and attractive working environment that is conducive to learning. To contribute to the continuing development of peri-operative and professional practice ensuring practice is evidence based. To support the integration of clinical governance in all aspects of patient care delivery. To demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to achieve the learning outcomes of departmental programmes, trust and unit competencies.

Key Responsibilities: Clinical Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual pathways of peri-operative care in partnership with patients and carers Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills across all professional groups, and patients, their carers. Ensure care delivered is clinically effective, safe and holistic. Prepare patients for their procedure, to include pre and post operative care. Participate in multi disciplinary clinical audit Maintain relevant and accurate records of care (manual and computerised) within the Data Protection Act and professional standards To be responsible for the quality of data recorded. The data should be accurate, legible (if written), recorded in a timely manner, kept up to date and appropriately filed Safe administration of medicines in accordance with relevant local policies and national legislation and professional standards. To be responsible for complying with Trust Infection Control policies and clinical guidelines Participate in patient/carer information, education and health promotion. To implement and promote the safe use of clinical equipment with reference to local policies and national legislation Work as part of a multi disciplinary team demonstrating awareness of role and responsibilities

Managerial Supervises and manage students, junior and support staff directing the delivery of care, acting as a role model and assisting in their professional development

Establish and understand the needs of newly qualified staff and learners, communicating with senior clinical staff and line manager as required Implements Directorate/Trust policies and guidelines including Health & Safety, Moving & Handling and security Prioritise and work effectively as part of a team to carry out tasks as delegated by senior staff assisting in the efficient management of the unit ensuring optimum use of resources. Participate in identifying, implementing and evaluating new ways of working and delivering patient care. Understand and promote the trust clinical governance framework participating in risk management, adverse incident reporting Handle complaints as per Trust policy

Education Undertake training and development needs as detailed in your personal development plan.

Mentor, teach and assess junior and support staff. Develop resources on health prevention and promotion, communicating this to patients and their carers. Attend mandatory training as per Trust and professional requirements To prepare and actively participate in Trusts annual Performance Development Review process and progress reviews Articulate and demonstrate awareness of own ability and role parameters Display professional behaviour at all times in line with professional Code of Conduct Uphold and maintain Trust policies and statutory regulations relating to Health and Safety, Fire, Major Incident, and Risk Management procedures Provides support to senior colleagues in connection with management decisions/implications within the Directorate/Trust Attend department and Trust meetings as required, participating in discussion, and reporting relevant information to staff.
