Breastmilk: important reminders in breastfeeding

Breastfeeding
Being a mother is one of the most important responsibility of a woman. As believed, being a woman can be measured through ones capacity to give birth and her capacity to provide unconditional love for her child. The first milk form of a mother is known as colostrum. It contains nutrients needed by infants during the first weeks of life. Through breastfeeding, a mother can express her unconditional love for her child. In addition, it provides love and care for her child and most importantly, it gives a healthy body for the baby.

1. According to some studies, infants who are not breastfed has a high percentage of acquiring illnesses like diarrhea, cough and colds and other illnesses. 2. Infants who are not breastfed are prone to sickness and confinement in the hospital. 3. There is a high percentage that milk from bottles can be contaminated compared to breastmilk and can give illness for babies.

Breastfeeding takes 15 - 30 minutes, every 1-3 hours, 8 - 18 times a day. It is important to learn how to breastfeed the child properly to avoid any accident.

When the child is full, it stops breastfeeding. If done and needs to remove the mouth from the breast, put a finger on the corner of his mouth and Push the child gently away. Let your child burp after breastfeeding.

It contains vitamins needed by the baby in order to have a healthy mind and body as the baby grows. It contains DHA, AA, and Lactose suitable for baby to have a healthy mind and body.

Find a good position where you're comfortable. Handle well the child's head. Support with your arms the back and buttocks of the child. Hold your breast with one hand (do not touch the part which is in contact with the childs mouth). Compress the breasts and position in front of the childs mouth.. Gently let your breast touch the lips of the child to let him open his mouth. When he has opened his mouth, bring him closer, hold well and breastfeed. If the child has not opened his mouth, continue letting your breast touch his lips. Ensure that the mouth covers your areola. There are chances that the child's nose touches your breasts, do not worry because it is normal and the child can still breathe. Let the baby suck for 10 to 15 minutes, then turn and move to other breast.

A mother should not breastfeed when:


1.If she has an illness that can be transmitted to the baby through breastfeeding. Examples like HIV(AIDS) and TB. 2.When she is taking drugs for her illness. The drugs can be mixed with the milk of the mother and might affect the health of the baby 3.When the mother is using illegal drugs, drinking alcohol and smoking. It can have a bad effects for the health of the baby because there are ingredients that can be poisonous and can mix to the milk of the mother

Breastfeeding the baby is also conducive to the operation of the family. It not only concentrated for health because it brings: Breastfeeding is more economical because the family will not need to buy milk. It is free but has more nutrients. It helps the parents save more money because the babies will rarely get sick It serves as a natural method of family planning because of it temporary delays normal ovulation and monthly menstruation. There will be beautiful and happy relationship not only for the mother and father but the whole family. Full support will be given by the father to the mother because he knows breastfeeding helps make baby healthier.

Bring the baby to your physician if:


1. Has difficulty sucking 2. Crying after 1- 2 minutes of beastfeeding 3. When the baby pee only six times and defecate three times in a day 4. If the stool has yellowish color 5. When there is soft submerged portiontop of the head 6. Suckling in just six times per day for the first month 7. Lower portion of umbilicus is yellowish
