Position Summary
The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will be part of an international project team. He / she must properly interpret and apply Client & Linde technical requirements and relevant industry specifications, codes and/or project-specific standards and specifications. Effective communication with other team members is essential. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will work on proposals and on projects. He / she must be willing to travel as required, and will also be responsible for maintaining project schedules and budgets (for both man hours and materials cost) as they relate to Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) items.

Key Areas of Responsibility

In cooperation with Process Engineering, create and maintain Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Develop combustion control strategy and Burner Management Systems (BMS) for thermal oxidation and furnace systems. Generate instrument data sheets, wiring diagrams, sequence of operations, flow charts, control panel design, control logic diagrams, loop diagrams, installation details and safety PLC control software. Size and specify instrumentation including but not limited to control valves, regulators, gauges, thermocouples, flow meters (including coriolis, vortex, annubar, venturi, and magnetic types), flame monitoring devices, and oxygen / combustibles analyzers. Complete work on assigned projects on time and at or under budget. In cooperation with Selas Fluids Procurement Dept., assist with evaluation of quotations and preparing / checking of purchase specifications. As required, support skid / module fabricators and site construction / start-up teams. Respond promptly to vendor or contractor requests for clarifications & information. Review and approve component supplier and skid / module fabricator documentation. Set and maintain the overall instrumentation and control philosophy, recognizing interfaces with and requirements of other disciplines such as process and mechanical engineering. Perform other responsibilities associated with this position such as participation in HAZOP, client meetings, visiting job locations, and witnessing FATs & SATs at shops and client sites. Performs other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned from time to time. Working knowledge of combustion equipment as well as national and international Codes and Standards such as ISA, NEC / IEC, NFPA, OSHA along with general good engineering practices for I&C engineering. Effective general and engineering-related computer skills: Smart Plant P&ID, InTools, and instrument sizing software (such as Flowserve and Firstview) as well as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Visio, etc.), Lotus Notes, Documentum, and other Company and discipline-specific software applications. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with superiors, peers, and subordinates as well as with other individuals inside and outside the Company. Flexibility; willing and able to adapt to Selas Fluid / Linde working methods & tools. Ability to effectively execute responsibilities on multiple projects at the same time. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Successful track record of effectively working with vendors, field construction and operations personnel, fabricators, system integrators and PLC / DCS programmers.

Required Skills

Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD applications. Ability & willingness to accept domestic and international travel / work assignments. Bachelors degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics, or the equivalent in working experience. Minimum of five years experience in an OEM or EPC company providing combustion equipment, or in an operating company with Instrumentation & Controls engineering duties. Field service experience (performing installations, startups, and/or troubleshooting existing installation) is preferred, but not essential.
