Form 2-12 Chicago Public Schools 2012 Local School Council Election

CANDIDATE STATEMENT
Michele Clark Academic Preparatory Magnet High School Local School Council Candidates Name: Paul Boye

Michele Clark High School strives to develop its students as lifelong learners and independent thinkers who are well-prepared for post-secondary success. I want to serve on the Local School Council as a Community Resident to help ensure that vision becomes reality for all of the students at Michele Clark. As a member of the community, I yearn for quality schools for our neighborhoods children. As a future parent, I am eager to see quality schools in our community that create and uphold a safe, supportive, and ambitious learning community for all of its students. As a former teacher, I have spent time in Chicagos public schools, recognizing both the great assets of many schools, and their challenges. I have seen students who have flourished with dedicated teachers, administrators, and school staff. I have worked alongside adults who care passionately about students learning and work to ensure every student attains the skills and character needed to achieve at the next grade level and reach post-secondary success. Sadly, I have also seen students who did not and do not receive the education they deserve. I have seen circumstances in which adults have been unable to work cohesively for the betterment of every student. Over these past two school years, I have had the joy to dive into the Michele Clark school community as an after-school program coordinator. Through buildOn, I have worked directly with Michele Clark students and teachers to learn about issues around Chicago and the world, and to take action to alleviate problems. I have shared the vision of youth making change in classrooms, and walked side-by-side with Michele Clark students to beautify community parks, spend meaningful time with residents at senior centers, and lead safe and fun activities for kids. I have also had the fortune to lead a Michele Clark student to help build a school in Malawi, southern Africa, and will guide two students and a teacher to Nicaragua, Central America, this coming summer. With experience teaching in Chicago classrooms, and working directly with Michele Clark students and teachers, I am eager to be involved in continuing to create an excellent learning community at Michele Clark. Thank you for your support. Sincerely,

Paul Boye Local School Council Candidate, Community Resident
