The Dothraki Language Dictionary (ver 3.

020)
Written by Ingsve, Hrakkar, Tuiq and Lajaki www.dothraki.org December 29th , 2011

This is the rst available Dothraki dictionary. Dothraki is the language for the Dothraki people, a nomadic war-mongering race that ride the aptly-named Dothraki Sea steppes in George R.R. Martins series, A Song of Ice and Fire. It was created by David Peterson, of the Language Creation Society, for the HBO adaptation of the series: all copyright belongs to HBO and the LCS. This is a dictionary only of publicly made information, from posts on the LCS blog, the original books, David Petersons blog and personal emails. Words which have been created by David Peterson are listed as DP. Words created from the original book are listed as M. For more information, go to dothraki.org. As the main thrust of the vocabulary development is now on the wiki on Dothraki.org, an attempt is being made to keep these versions in sync. This dictionary is being maintained as it is more portable and searchable than the wiki. In the future, it can also better handle translations into other languages. Bold indicates a Dothraki word. Italics indicate the English denition. Plain text indicates grammatical categorization: parentheses indicate extra information. Transitivity is marked if known as vtr., intransitive as vin.: words marked v. are either unattested or ambitransitive, or their transitivity is unable to be deduced. Noun animacy is marked na. for animate nouns, and ni for inanimate nouns. Nouns marked simply n. are at this time unattested for animacy. The IPA indicates the correct pronunciation, and should now be fully up-to-date. Some transcriptions may have allomorphs, as in [qoj] or [qh oj]. There are now separate, numbered entries for each word that has different denitions for different parts of speech (root words are generally excluded from this practice). Since the lexical form of Dothraki nouns and verbs are inected forms, you will not see stems in this dictionary, except in a few rare cases. As this is intended to be a reading/writing dictionary, the stems are not all that useful, anyway. In most cases, the stem is fairly easily derived if you need it. Stress markings have been removed, as the stress is fairly predictable, and will be more completely addressed in a future version of this dictionary. Numbers are also listed here where David Peterson specically attested one-word terms for them. There is also now a numbers section in the appendices. The words herein should include all publicly known words. But if you nd more words elsewhere, spot any errors or inconsistencies, or have any comments, please let me know on the forum. Thanks. This dictionary is updated to match the Wiki edit of 29 December 2011, 1:06z. Many praises and thanks go to Lajaki and Ingsve, who originally compiled this, and Tuiq, who put the coding online. Much of the maintenance of this dictionary is now being done by Hrakkar.

The Changelog
2.10 Maintenance of this dictionary taken over by Hrakkar. Added about 150 words, and plan to make sure this dictionary is in close agreement with the wiki. 2.11 Added words from here. Corrected IPA on ferri. Fixed denition of charolat. Corrected shori tawahof to the nominative case. 2.12 Added about 15 words from the month of September. Although a full check needs to still be made, the dictionary should now be nearly in sync with the wiki.

15

2.2 Changed the authors; added a numbers appendix (currently populated by Navi numbers, which will be changed soon), and a Proper nouns appendix. 2.21 Added a number of words, including all of the color words. Moved all the proper nouns to their new home. Made a few corrections. Still have not updated the number table (only so many hours in a day :-( ) 2.22 Added 64 words, mostly from the last few TV episodes (thanks Qvaak!). Corrected a few other words. Took rst stab at xing number table. 3.000 Major and thorough reworking of dictionary to bring it into full conformance with the wiki. Although I checked things as thoroughly as I could, I undoubtedly broke a few things. Please let me know if you nd anything. This version still needs a nal line-byline crosscheck with the wiki. 3.010 The cross-check has been completed, and not surprisingly, I found some errors that needed correcting. Added a number of new words, as well as the ordinal number terms. 3.011 Added or changed the following words: dirgat, dirge, faqqi, haqat, hajinaan, javrathat, kafat, khas, khasar, kolakhtihan, najak, najakak, najakat, najakeya, nhizo, qifo, qov, rhoa, vov 3.012 Made some very minor technical corrections here and there, nothing that affects content. 3.013 Added new words from Davids Thanksgiving blog post: asfavirzeth cranberry and oeta yam. 3.014 Added new words from wiki: gezri snake and lekhmove constructed language. 3.015 Added words from Davids To be blog post: athnithmenar, drozhat, eshina, eyeli, eyelilat, fansa, fonolat, kolakeesi, nithmen. Made a minor change to kolak. 3.016 Corrected qorisolat to qorasolat. 3.017 Added words from Davids pronominals blog post, and from the New York Times article: addothralat, athhilezar, avvitisherat, jif, mem, vasterat, vishaferat.
