Brand new CLTA NSW website Please visit the Associations new website at http://www.cltansw.org where loads of information and resources are available for its members 24/7. Members are encouraged to create accounts in the "Members Area" to access members-only resources, share teaching strategies and voice opinions. Professional Learning and Development To make sure the Association organises the most relevant training, all members have been invited to complete a survey about their preferred professional learning courses. As a result, we are currently organising a long in-service focusing on the newly developed NSW Heritage Chinese (Mandarin) course. CLTA NSW is also in taking with PLANE.edu.au about future cooperation to use their on-line learning platform and virtual peer coaching facilities. We are aiming to launch training courses on-line to support Chinese language teachers throughout NSW.

This workshop will provide a platform for school practitioners to exchange good practices and for researchers to share their latest findings. John Meng is currently the Head Teacher LOTE/Mathematics at Rooty Hill High School, NSW. He was elected as the President of CLTA NSW at its 2012 AGM. Prior to that John has been teaching Chinese Language, Asian culture and literacy and Mathematics in Great Western Sydney Region since 2006. As the project leader, John successfully managed and completed Learning Neighbourhood Asia Literacy Program funded by NALSSP in 2009-2010. John is the recipient of the NSW Western Sydney Region Excellence in Education Award and Australian Council of Educational Leaders (ACEL) Leadership Award in recognition of his contribution in Asian literacy education and school leadership. Recently he has been appointed twice as the China Group Leader of Endeavour Language Teachers Fellowship, part of DEEWR Endeavour Awards program. Johns research interests cover the pedagogies integrating ICT, visible learning and leaning differentiation, and student performance data analysis. In his leisure time John enjoys playing bridge, having a round of golf and gourmet cooking for his family.
Graduated from Tamkung University Taiwan in 1979, Wei LEU has been teaching Mandarin, ESL and Spanish for more than 17 years. His Chinese students include L1, L2 and Background Speakers learners of Chinese (Years 712). In his teaching career, Wei has been involved in the NSW HSC Examination Committee, HSC marking and syllabus writing. He has also organised professional development workshops for teachers and published several books related to Chinese language teaching which include Study Guide for HSC Chinese Background Speakers Stage 6 CourseStudent Book, Study Guide for HSC Chinese Background Speakers Stage 6 CourseTeacher Book, HSK 10 Levels Teaching Programs, HSK Step by Step Units of Work, Levels 1-7, and Learn Chinese While Singing, Student Workbook Vols 1 and 2. Wei believes that education is the way to make the world better. In order to put into practice this educational philosophy, Wei co-established with his wife, Ms Chiuling LIN, the Rural China Educare Foundation, a charity foundation, to raise money for setting up libraries in Primary and Secondary schools in rural China. More than 100 libraries have been set up by RCEF since 1998. Wei was awarded the 2011 Premier's Kingold Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. The focus of his study trip is to research the best practice in teaching the cultural dimensions integrated with language suitable for the NSW K-10 Chinese, Stage 6 Chinese Continuers and Heritage Chinese syllabuses so as to achieve the prescribed objectives and outcomes. Wei was elected as the Vice President of Chinese Language Teachers Association of NSW inc at its 2012 Annual General Meeting.
