Acoustic Neuroma: A non-malignant tumor growth that begins at the 8th cranial nerve, that runs from the brain to the inner ear cavity. Symptoms last for several hours and between attacks the affected ear may return to normal, although hearing does not tend to deteriorate gradually with repeated attacks.
